Why do we write our poems // our stories
Who will care // Who will read our work
We write for ourselves
remembering life as we want it to be
gathering diamonds or thorns from life’s ashes
knowing the story is never the story;
but rather, a perspective of our past
written and shaped to suit how we want
our history // our feelings //our life
remembered…
What are you gathering from the ashes?
Are you passing on diamonds or thorns?

Hopefully more diamonds than thorns… and a few roses along the way! 🌹🌹🌹

There will be both in life. Just don’t pass the thorns on to others.

Loved this so much!! Life gives both doesn’t it? Thorns and diamonds? So, I’m thinking we get inspiration and poems from both!!! Wonderful post! Especially, liked your lines – “What are you gathering from the ashes?
Are you passing on diamonds or thorns?” Bellissimo, Dwight, Bellissimo!!!

Thank you so much Chuck for your kind and affirmative comments. Yes, life offers us both. The key is how we respond to both. Some people seem to live among the diamonds and others can’t get past the thorns. I guess we need to know how to survive both!

Good point–what do we pass on to others, diamonds or thorns? I hope more strive to share goodness than otherwise. We can do much to alleviate suffering when we do.

Thank you very much. I agree, it is important to focus on the diamonds rather than passing along the pain of thorns.

I love the metaphor for writing, Dwight: ‘gathering diamonds or thorns from life’s ashes’. For me it has to be thorns, which protect fruit or flowers. I don’t mind going through a bit of pain to find sweetness and beauty, am attracted to the dark side, and I was never keen on diamonds – not my best friends
