The Color of Love

IMG_7650 (2)

Tonight at d’Verse, Sarah asked us to consider the word red, with all its many meanings. These red petals falling reminded me that in the winter of our lives love lives on!

As red petals fall

Ephemeral beauty fades

Our love never ends

Reincarnation Reboot

Little Chippie on Dwights shoulder

I fully retired in 2011. Over the years I had many interests that have since been helpful to fill my time now that I am retired. I began to spend time doing acrylic painting. Bob Ross’s The Joy of Painting came on PBS create channel every day at 12:30. I watched in awe, while eating my lunch, as he painted a whole painting in less than a half hour. I began to experiment with his painting techniques and finally found some success.
Little Chippie was a mourning dove who fell out of his nest too early. We began to feed him and he became like a pet, actually eating out of our hand. This was my last personal encounter with Chippie. As he got older he began to be more distant. We went on vacation for two weeks and when we returned he had adjusted to life in the wild. We were sad to lose the connection, but realized this day would come. You can read the original poem at https://wordpress.com/post/rothpoetry.wordpress.com/18410
I wrote a children’s book Little Chippies Big Adventure, which is also an e-book on kindle.

Unmovable Rock

DSC_0120 (4)

Spring is all around us, spreading pollen as leaves and flowers flourish. The joy of springtime is not inhibited by human crisis! Rocks remind us that what is solid is unmoved. As we lift prayers and hope for those working on the front lines of the Coronavirus, we must remember that the words on our coins are not just a nice saying, but rather the solid rock of our faith… In God We Trust!

Beauty rises high

above all // glorious Spring

Rocks remain solid

Last Chance

Dogwood park is closing tomorrow with the announcement of the stay at home order for the state of North Carolina. Only essential movement is permitted.  We decided to take advantage of the gorgeous day and meet our Son and family at the park for the first time on over three weeks. We picnicked using two tables and spread out making no physical contact with them. How odd not to greet with hugs!  It was a beautiful day and the dogwoods for which the park was named were in full bloom.

A beautiful day

Park will be closed from now on…

Dogwoods still blooming

Humpty-Dumpty

Interesting how our gods all fall to pieces
when crisis comes knocking at our door.
Life in disarray lies before us
with no way of putting it back together again.
Looking into the eyes of hopelessness
shocks us into reality.
Invincible has no definition in our world;
We all sit on the wall waiting to fall.
Interesting how our gods fall to the floor
When crisis comes knock knocking at our door.

Posting on d’Verse Poets Pub open link night! Frank asked us to put a couplet at the end of our poem. I hope this meets the criterion.

Every day she works on making a hole in the dead gumtree branch. How she keeps from getting a migraine I certainly do not know. She gets her energy from my suet cake hanging outside my window.

High in the gum tree

She slowly carves out a nest

Coming back for suet

New Meaning

Burnt Barn...

Forced Solitary
Old walls come down
We must talk
*****
Light breaks the darkness
Building bridges heart to heart
Words hold new meaning

“Barn’s burnt down, now I can see the moon.”
~Mizuta Masahide

Mish, at d’verse, asked what we can learn from all unsettling things that are happening around us. The quote by Mizuta Masahide shows that good can come from what most would consider tragedy. She asked us to write with this quote in mind.

Write Your Memoirs Now…

Memoriors photo

Now is the time to write your memoirs, a story a day for thirty days. Once you start it all comes back to you. Send it to friends and family for additions, corrections, and edits. By the end of the month you will have a completed autobiography. Load it from Word on to a pdf. And take it on a flash drive to Office Max/Depot/Staples and have them print it half size and put on a plastic cover and spiral binding. You can get a better price if you order twenty or more. Make your cover page separately. You can add photos, but keep them black and white. Color photos increase the price significantly.
You can load your book on to amazon.com kindle for free. Have fun… Make good use of your time.

Tell your story
Let it roll from your mind like an avalanche
Mighty and intense
Driven by unstoppable forces
Knowing that if not you
No one
Will ever know the depth of joy and pain
It will be lost
Forever

Mother

Sweet bluebird // a magical beauty
Perched on the rod outside my window.
Tiny sharp talons gripped tightly.
Seeing her reflection on the surface;
She flung herself at the image;
Thinking it to be another female.
This is her territory…
Guarded fiercely at all cost!
