Five furry felines together
Enjoyed lunch in Spring weather
As they licked their chops
One said, “This meal was tops!”
“But what shall we do with the feathers?”

Artwork by Luis Wain
Posting for Melissa’s d’Verse prompt on Luis Wain’s Cat drawings. We were to choose one of the pictures and write a poem about it. But, we cannot use the word “Cat” in our poem We may use synonyms. I decided to do a limerick about the Cats that ate the bird.
Yes, they do groom themselves after a meal!

I’m sure you were smiling. I was smiling when I read . Didn’t recognize it was a limerick from how my crazy smart phone strew it around. I haven’t written one in a long time, I must write one soon, maybe for NaPoWriMo 2024.

Ha ha… yes I smiled all the way through. Limericks are so much fun to write. I wonder why we never get them as a prompt on d’Verse!

If they’re anything like the kitties I know, they’ll inconveniently leave them on a doorstep.

Dwight, I love your limerick! I love how you used the title of the artwork as a line in your poem, too.

Thank you so much, Melissa. The title of the artwork was what grabbed my attention. It is just what they might be thinking! :>)

Hiding the trace of your crime is not that easy… and maybe a few of the feathers will turn up in a hairball later.

With the winds we’ve been having, those fabulous felines wouldn’t have to worry for long…all trace of their meal would be blown away! Love the limerick! 💞💞💞

Great limerick, Dwight! Way back, we had a cat that would gift us with a poor dead bird on our doorstep.

Yours is the third delightful limerick I’ve read on this prompt. Limericks are sharp and pithy… the cats of poetry. ❤
