Seasons of life collide with a season of war
Carnage rains down on young and old
The world weeps tears of anger and compassion
While those in Ukraine struggle to hold on
to their disrupted displaced lives
Snow falls as they hug their children

Today at d’Verse, Lisa asked us to write a Quadrille of 44 words about the seasons. As an older person, I think about both the changing seasons and my own season of life. War is a vortex of evil that can happen in any season, but for us who are older it only speeds our demise.
In our digital world we see the horrors of the war in Ukraine every day on our news broadcasts. One cannot help but put themselves in their place as we watch and wonder what we would do in their place.

So sad! I pray daily for peace and the preservation of life! 🙏🏽❤️

Your poem shows the depths of your compassionate heart, Dwight. 💝 It seems more should be done to stop the senseless brutality.

Yes, it is difficult to know what can be done without starting a large-scale world war!

That is the certainly the greater concern and fear. It is just too painful to know that such horrible acts are happening without the rest of the world rising up to stop it.

Thank you. Hopefully it does not make us jaded from all the ongoing actions.

Or, you can do something about it as we have. After all, faith without work is meaningless.

This is such a touching poem, Dwight. With the whole world watching the death, destruction, and suffering every day in Ukraine, I find it hard to understand how it is being allowed to continue.

I was thinking the same, Liz.

Other than starting WWIII there does not seem to be much more that we can do!

This is touching, Dwight. I’m so appalled by the atrocities. There are many emotions we all feel and I thank you for honoring the victims in such a beautiful way. 💛

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this as well. We seem powerless at times, but we can always use our words to speak out and call into question what is being done.

Dwight, you are so right, when people are being attacked viciously in a war, all of our lives are shortened by worry. Please let this madness end.

I would be happy if war were to always be out of season.

Yes, I agree! As long as there is greed and a lust for power, it will continue.

Dwight, I also think about my ‘season’ in life just as you do …. thankful to still greet each of them. Your poem is a somber reminder of how fragile life is. Thanks for leaving me a comment.

War is such a frightening thing. In a snap of the finger things can turn ugly. From children playing in the park, to the same park found in a blown up rubble. Thanks for expressing how your feel about it. It sometimes helps people to understand how they should feel about a certain crisis going on in the world. I never looked at it from an angle how war just speeds up the end for a person who is older. Take care. ❤️

Thank you, Don for your thoughtful comments. The older we get the less we are able to take care of ourselves Old folks are vulnerable… War just makes it worse for them.
