Gray Fox
Eyes burning in the twilight
Sense of smell overrides fear
Looking for that porkchop bone
tossed out earlier
Constant cravings
push instinct aside
Hunger becomes the driver
while slinking in the shadows

I was surprised to see this fox in the back yard, when I went to close the curtain on my sliding door. He stayed around long enough for me to get my camera. But, when I slid the door open for a better shot he turned and headed back into the woods.
This is a shaky shot:
Awesome and awesome poem too! 😊

I’m glad he stayed long enough for that photo op! But glad he didn’t hang around too long. We had a fox den a few years back just about 1/8 mile from our house. Such fun to watch the kits tumble and play!

He looks pretty large for a fox.

He was bigger than the red fox I have seen. He was beautiful, with a big long nose and a fluffy gray tail. His coat was sparkly gray.

I don’t think I’ve seen a gray fox before. The ones around here are red and relatively small.

Hope he at least got the porkchop bone.

Oh wow! How exciting that he hung around long enough for a photo! 🦊 Fun subject to write about.

Yes, he did not seem to be too afraid of me taking his picture, until I opened the door. I tried using the flash, but it just glared in the door glass!

Those unexpected moments with nature are special. A few weeks back I noticed a hawk on the fence that had caught a bird. Exciting! I managed to get a few seconds of video before it flew away.

We love living next to a wooded acreage. It does provide a wonderful variety of birds and some animals.

Yes, I was expecting him to run immediately, but he paused and looked at me for a moment, just long enough to get a shot.

I would be surprised as well.. but I live in civilian areas full of houses, so not much chances are there.

We are backed up to a neighboring woods. We get to see a lot of birds and some wildlife… especially squirrels.
