Chains of Love

Love is not simply an act we do in a time of passion

It is more of a chain that links us with each new encounter

A place where joy and sorrow meet, held together tightly

by the chain of events that we call life.

*

Some chains are linked with large links full of strength

while others are fragile and can be easily broken

Some are linked with refined finesse that binds us together

like a beautiful herringbone neckless laying on her neck

*

Love is about a connection between our two souls

Held together by an unexplainable bond that weaves itself

into every part of who we are and what we will become

Not choking like a lymphoma, rather a loose connection

*

Love embodies flexibility that allows one to breathe deeply

inhaling the beauty of who we are together in each of life’s links

Juke Box Memories

Against the wall a Juke Box stood

full of old forty-fives…

spinning for fifty cents a song.

We ate cheap back in the eighties

Pizza Inn buffet for only $5.99

Dimly lit room // a brightly lit buffet

Righteous Brothers singing my favorite

Unchained Melody”

Today is the tenth anniversary of the founding of d’Verse Poets Pub. Brian Miller, co-founder is back with our Quadrille prompt. He has taken us back a few years to the time of the Juke Box and asked us to write our Quadrille (exactly 44 words) using the word Juke! This took me back to the eighties when we took our boys to the local Pizza Inn buffet. In my child hood the songs were a nickle, and then a quarter, and finally fifty cents each or three songs for a dollar. A great memory indeed.

Music Crossroads

PICT0021 (2).JPG

I  really enjoy Ken Burns PBS video series on the History of Country Music. The beauty of it all is reflected in the way music was passed back and forth across the social and racial divides. The influences of all the cultural groups are reflected in the music. Great music speaks to everyone’s soul. It has no boundaries.

Soul melodies flow
Music // blood only runs red
Crossing all bound’ries

**********

Music // an ever renewable energy source
Costs nothing //earns great sums for some
A soft song or rhythm with a driving force
Music can be loud // or only a small hum

Painting: Dwight L. Roth

Can you tell what melody is written on the painting…  Start at the clef and work upward…
