I had a wonderful surprise when a lone Monarch Butterfly showed up a week ago. I did not see any all summer. I had a Yellow Swallowtail and a Black Swallowtail but no Monarchs. He was attracted to my butterfly bush, but even more so to my orange Zinnias. They were about to dry up last week, but I decided to give them one more good drink of water. They bounced back and so did the Monarch. There are no words t0 describe adequately the beauty of the photos below, so here is my poem in pictures.
great pictures! I didn’t see many either. Reason – “Almost 1.5 million Monarch butterflies died frozen during the recent snowfall recorded in El Rosario, the largest sanctuary in Michoacán.”

Thanks. I really enjoyed the site you sent about the butterflies in the snow. Hopefully we will get more next year.

yeah it was definitely a shame. Saw quite a few in Oct. migrating along east coast dunes by ocean.
