Big Blow…

Trump forcast (2)
Dorian blew through
Spent time in the Bahamas
Wreaked havoc on all
A windstorm like no other
Finally headed up the coast
*
President misspoke
Drew lines clear to Alabam’
Unforgivable
New Media jumped on it
Over and over they slammed
*
Dorian crept on
Ocracoke and Hatteras
Storm surge rolled inland
Never did reach Alabam’
Headed on to Newfoundland
*
President’s drawing
Still making news every day
Does anyone care
News Media won’t let it go
Trump’s sketch book making history

Our Haikai prompt from Frank Tassone today is windstorm. As we watched Hurricane Dorian take its time moving out of here, we are in awe of the damage mother nature can do when a huge hurricane moves through! In the middle of it all, the News Media made a big adieu of President Trumps home-made prediction. that it could possibly go inland as far as Alabama. His hand drawn sketch should have been taken with a grain of salt. Instead, the news broadcasts making drama will help it go down in the history books! How silly!!! This is my attempt at Renga humor about it all.

Rationalizing Vice

EER_0606.JPG

Today we explore the seven deadly sins and the seven virtues (Vice and Virtue). Amaya challenged us to look inside ourselves and evaluate one of each. As I looked down the list of seven there was more than one I could have chosen. I decided to hit home and challenge myself with this one. These signs have appeared in welcoming yards across the country, since President Trump put limits on immigration.  Where do you stand,,, on the side of vice (Greed) or on the side of virtue (Charity)?

I must confess when I read the sign something inside me resisted

The Pharisee in me reared its ugly head // made me back away

Possessive greed required my allegiance // rejecting some who are different

Surprisingly, open arms and welcoming seemed foreign to my spirit

Questions arose: are they legal, are they dangerous, or perhaps the wrong color?

The story of our nation reveals

How quickly we took from welcoming native neighbors

Burning villages // killing them off // Relocating them to far away places

Out of sight // out of mind // the problem was now solved

We live here in luxury with guards, walls, and gates

Disinviting all who are different from us // closing eyes to the problem

Is this what it means to “Make America Great Again…”

Hedging ourselves in // using them to do our bidding

Or can we move from our vice to virtue with charity in our hearts

Saying,” No matter who you are // where you are from,,,

we are glad you’re our neighbor”

We are so contradictory in our affair with guns. On one hand we revere our American Heroes and buy our kids GI Joe toys and guns to play with, while telling them that guns are not to be pointed at anyone because they are so dangerous. We buy them video games of virtual reality that allows them to kill at will, and then tell them this is not real and they should never think of killing real people. We buy guns at gun shows and keep them in our house, and tell our children if anyone tries to break in we will shoot to kill. We watch our Hollywood heroes kill at will, but they are not to do the same. What are you teaching your children by word and by the toys and games you allow them to own?  Solutions solved by guns almost always end in death and collateral damage.

Teachers at school are all shaken
Students lay dead// lives taken
Blame freely passed
The public’s aghast
While guns freely trade and are taken

*

Student in school have had enough
Parents and administrators in a huff
While congress delays
The gun lobby pays
As the NRA’s stand remains tough

*

TV news constant streaming
Showing pictures of shooter and screaming
The death count will rise
Amid shots fired and cries
As the next insane planner keeps on scheming

*

Trump says teachers should be armed
As parents and teachers sound their alarm
Teachers used to be teaching
Carrying guns seems far reaching
As they try to keep children from harm

Ichabod

EER_0738

Halloween is a holiday of conflicting views. Some see it as evil and want no part of it. For kids it is a fun time to dress up in costumes and go door to door collecting treats and being frightened by imaginary ghosts.

Many of us remember Washington Irving’s story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. During the past presidential campaign I wrote this prophetic poem about the race that was taking place. While everyone was writing Trump off, I thought their message of his demise was very premature. As we all know my prophesy turned out to be true.

The Headless Horseman of the Apocalypse

Riding through the dark night of the soul

Comes a headless horseman on a silver steed

Snorting fire and ashes he rides with great speed

No one can stop the galloping Spector

No one dare be so bold

As the ghastly night round him grows cold

Not Donkey nor Elephant, not Fox nor Hound

He defies all those who would slow him down

Many have tried and many have failed

Some have screamed and some have yelled

But nothing can stop the apocalyptic wail

Out of the swamp through the fog of night

Rides the Headless Horseman of the Apocalypse

Leaving all in a fright and some in delight

He comes charging the bridge in full moonlight

Not a myth not a tale nor a short lived wail

Will rise up to challenge with ghastly pale

The pending disaster that rides on his tail

In the morning sun he’ll surely be restricted

His demise not true as many souls predicted

He’s here for now and he’ll be for a spell

This wild man with no head has tales to tell

The powers tried to slow him down

As he rode in that midnight hour

But the pumpkin wielding warrior

Simply brought scare and horror

To politicians and voters far and wide

Bringing chaos and confusion

Now all is lost the pumpkin is cast

He won’t stop till that last bridge is crossed

Leaving the frightened and scared in his wake

Riding full speed ahead into the dark night

The deal at the crossroad is sealed

Things will never again be the same

How Soon We Forget

railroad-tracks-2

Republicans and Democrats are alike when it comes to accepting a Presidential defeat. I remember eight years ago when President Obama was elected, the Republicans criticized and vilified him at every turn. Now that the tables are turned and Trump is the President Elect, the Democrats are already doing the same to him. Why can’t we realize we are all on the same train, going down the same track, even though the engineer has changed?

The Parana Tank

How quickly we forget

The nasty vitriol thrown

At President Obama

When first elected

He’s Black

He’s a Muslim

He wasn’t born in America

He’s a socialist

He will ruin this country

He is not a Christian

He is a Pot Smokin’ Activist

A socialist at heart

He supports same sex marriage

And abortion

He’s antichristian

Befriends and bows to Muslims

Appoints them to his Cabinet

He’s the Antichrist

He is just like Hitler

*

Now the other party is doing the same

To our newly elected President Trump

Turn off the talking heads

Who stir the cesspool

Of dissention, hate, and racism

What’s done is done

The bed is made

Give the man a chance

Make your choice again

In four more years

This is how it works

Suicide Ride

mr-trump-001

This election has been one roller coaster ride after another. We have people who love Trump for saying what they wish they could say. Then there are those who despise him and think all his crazy talk is despicable.  After all his sexist remarks that were made public yesterday. I wonder how long he can keep things on the track. This poem is my way of poking fun at all the craziness of this election.

Suicide Ride

Climbing to the top

Thrill ride challenge

Maneuvered the small ones

Just crested the arch

Highest of highs

Rushing into weightless freefall

Everyone screaming

At the top of their lungs

I want off!!!!!

Will the coaster jump the tracks

Suicide for everyone onboard

Or sail up to the next loop

Rolling on into the booth

Adrenalin pumping

All grins and thumbs up

Hair a little mussed

Thrill ride of a lifetime

Response my poem to Dumb and Dumber

This poem come to me from my friend Bob in response to the political satire poem I posted yesterday.  I thought is was very good so, with his permission,  I am posting it on my site. Thought you might enjoy reading it as well.

Poem by Bob S. in response to Dumb and Dumber

They went to the polls to make their choice

This time hoping someone would hear their voice

They wound up getting a Big Mouth celebrity

As well as a woman with no integrity

Only 39% favor either of the two

Which leaves an American wondering what they should do?

When the best they can get is the best of the worst

Perhaps they should abstain and see what happens next

Like having a party to which nobody came

Without a clear winner should they do it again

For a country that’s based on such Blood Sweat & Tears

The two of these candidates bring out our worst fears

Dumb and Dumber

Trump and Hillary Cartoon

A political tale….

Dumb and Dumber

Dumb and Dumber were different as day and night

Time was short

The clock was ticking with each passing year

Although they were very successful

Each decided being president would seal their historic place

Using different tactics they went their way

The name calling joker and the forked-tongued lawyer

“I can fly to the sun, said Dumb, I’ve been there before!”

“Wow! I am sure you can,” said some

“I can promise you the moon,” said Dumber

“Yea!” said others, “I know Dumb can’t say that!”

“Will free cheese come with the moon?” asked others

“My back yard fence will be bigger than yours,” said Dumb

“Oh, but you can’t build a fence in your neighbor’s yard!”

said Dumber

“Yes I can, and I will make them pay for it!”

“I will crack my whip,” said Dumb

“Then I will take away all of your whips, answered Dumber

Dumb tried to one-up Dumber, “When those stray dogs come into my yard I will toss them right back over the fence!”

“Oh, You nasty soul, you can’t call your neighbors stray dogs!”

“And,” said Dumb, I will not let my kids take their toys to play in the neighbor’s yard! No sir, I will whoop their tails!”

“My house will be the greatest on the block!”

“Anyone who sets foot in my yard will feel the whip,” said Dumb,  “And , oh by the way…

“That is the one you can’t take away from me!”

“He is so Dumb, he doesn’t have a clue,” yelled Dumber!

“She is just a ‘Big it’,” said Dumb, “She is way dumber than me!

The battle rages on and on and on…

The public now must choose

Will it be Dumb or Dumber?

Or………………… will we be Dumb and Dumber

If we choose either one!

Smoke Screens

EER_0135 My former pastor used to say, “What’s happening is not always what’s going on.” I have seen this happen time and time again over the past years. Promises of change and hope for a better future seem to  be great political lines for candidates running for office.  If you think back to earlier elections, the hot topic issues back then are hardly mentioned today. In most cases they were issues used to get votes.  A lot of times they were religious based issues such as abortion  or gay rights used to polarize a particular group. I have come to the conclusion that most of what is said by the candidates and the news media is not what is really happening. Their talk is used to take the attention off of more significant things. This poem addresses this.

Politics

A circus of smoke and mirrors

Half-truths polished and shiny

Stretching every word out of context

Smoke screens of the insignificant

Always hiding reality  behind a cover of lies

Showing only fragments

Promising pots of gold at the end of the rainbow

False hope in a holey bucket filled with wishes and fantasies

Pouring steadily out the bottom

Mirrors in a TV funhouse of fright

Giving only distorted views

Twisting everything out of proportion

Don’t believe the hype

Look beyond the smoke and mirrors

Dig out the shards of truth

Always remember

Always question

What you see is not what you will get
