Seasons

IMG_E1649 (2)

Can one change the seasons or rush them into being

Make the Earth move faster in its revolution around the Sun

They all move in their designated times and spacings

*

Try as we may we cannot rush nature’s happenings

When we realize we too are part of that natural cycle

Perhaps we can relax and enjoy life happenings

*

We live in a world of beck and call // demanding

Results in minutes and hours // not months and days

Entitled souls // we believe we’re deserving

*

Nature has stopped us in our tracks

Showed us who really sets the course of our lives

And leaves us lying flat on our backs

*

As the world turns and the seasons change

Earth will be here long after we are gone

Reclaiming itself // and only our fossils will remain

J

Chipper Chipmunk

Little Chipper Chipmunk climbs my pole
Right through the slinky// his head in the hole
Stuffs cheeks with my seeds; but pays me no toll
*
His bulging cheeks full of sunflower seeds
Enough to supply his every need
Jumps the slinky like he’s riding a steed
*
Slides to the bottom // he’s off like a shot
Moved in under my deck, like it or not
I think it is time for a trav’ ling plot
*
He might be too cute and he might be smart
But I couldn’t afford him from the start
So, I shall set my trap and do my part
*
I tried it once but he came right back
Didn’t go far enough for him not to back track
This time, I’ll take him where he won’t get back
*
Into the big woods across the wide way
Where he can climb oak trees and feel them sway
Now I’ll have more seeds for the birds each day

Who’s In Charge?

EER_0851 (2)

Through it all the animals roam freely
while humans withdraw in their dread and fear
not venturing out // where birds sing sweetly
Our furry and feathered friends worry not
going about their gatherings with cheer;
living lives daily with nary a thought.
Resigned to their fate, they’ve no ears to hear.
While superior beings listen in fear…
Newscasts shout, “Cornovirus is near!”
What makes us believe we should rule the world?
We read it on pages // good books are clear
we’re invincible // destined // brash and bold…
Perhaps, it’s now time to accept our state;
realizing we are not superior here;
and, like the animals accept our fate.
Live life with purpose making each day count.
Knowing in God we trust through every tear…
we face each tomorrow as tensions mount.

I see people racing to the store to buy up toilet paper, I notice all around me in nature is still the same. The birds sing the squirrels raid my feeder without a thought. We have a lot to learn about our place in this world and nature has many ways to help keep us in perspective.
