Big Blow…

Trump forcast (2)
Dorian blew through
Spent time in the Bahamas
Wreaked havoc on all
A windstorm like no other
Finally headed up the coast
*
President misspoke
Drew lines clear to Alabam’
Unforgivable
New Media jumped on it
Over and over they slammed
*
Dorian crept on
Ocracoke and Hatteras
Storm surge rolled inland
Never did reach Alabam’
Headed on to Newfoundland
*
President’s drawing
Still making news every day
Does anyone care
News Media won’t let it go
Trump’s sketch book making history

Our Haikai prompt from Frank Tassone today is windstorm. As we watched Hurricane Dorian take its time moving out of here, we are in awe of the damage mother nature can do when a huge hurricane moves through! In the middle of it all, the News Media made a big adieu of President Trumps home-made prediction. that it could possibly go inland as far as Alabama. His hand drawn sketch should have been taken with a grain of salt. Instead, the news broadcasts making drama will help it go down in the history books! How silly!!! This is my attempt at Renga humor about it all.

Clip-Clop Ride

In my father-in-law’s things, after he died, we found some sketches he had done some years earlier. This Amish buggy was perfectly drawn down to the minute details. Our d’verse prompt today from Bjorn, is to use onomatopoeia  to create a poem. These are words that sound like they are spoken. I decided to use Dad’s Amish buggy to make my poem. The onomatopoeia words are in italics.

Clip Clop Ride

Amish buggy // wheels rattling against pavement

Rolling down the road // slowing down traffic

Thwack of the reins on the horses back

Trotting down the road to town and back

Rolling past fields with mooing cows

And a farmer feeding his pregnant sows

Little girls sitting in back with their brothers

Avoiding tourists with cameras and snapping shutters

Home again past their barn full of hay

And the cackle of chickens as they scratch and play

A unique life style frozen in time

Quite a different choice from yours and mine

Charcoal Remains

Charcoal Remains

Devastation burns its way into my soul

How can I rebuild from these ashes my life

Everything’s up in smoke only charcoal remains

How can I survive this intense pain and loss

Where do I go from the depths of despair

My canvas of life lies before me

Charcoal a reminder to sketch a new picture

I work on that sketch and paint in days to come

A life full of color and beauty all around

Letting seeds of hope back in I paint

Wiping away the charcoal no trace of smoke

A paradigm shift from the life of fire and devastation

Charcoal remains but only for sketching

Bright dreams of hope live once more
