Where Earth Meets the Sky

IMG_2586 (2)

Today I sat beside a stream
Watched a Titmouse take a bath
Listened to the birds that sing
While ants crawled on the path
Flowers bloomed in warm sunlight
Tall and strong with heads of yellow
Swaying there with smiles so bright
Nature’s garden is waving hello
The air was cool // the sun was hot
Above my head the willows sigh
In the shade’s my chosen spot
‘Tis a perfect place I sighed
So there I sat the morning out
While bees buzzed round close by
Thought to myself // no need to pout
Where earth meet the sky

Laid to Rest

IMG_3195 (2)

Leaves are laid to rest;
Blanketing the ground around the stones
of those already laid to rest.
Golden brown they fall
scattering in the wind // drifting gently;
A covering for those who have already
passed the winter of their life…
and those who left much too soon.
Soon the oak will be bare of leaves
its branches reaching up toward the blue sky.
Standing tall and stately over the cemetery
it knows when Spring comes
new life
will be drawn from its roots.
And, when this winter is past
it will put out new leaves
that will, once again, shade those
who have already been laid to rest.

Rotten to the Core

Rotten to the Core

Even the giants can be rotten to the core

Beautiful on the outside and not much more

A view that makes folks ooh and aah

Shake their heads admiringly he’s come very so far

IMG_3154

Strong bulging limbs give appearance of strength

Wide spread arms are open full length

Children enjoy his shade climbing high in his arms

Higher they climb without fear or alarm

Yelling and hollering,  “Mom look at me!”

Dads down below asking, “Wbat do you see?”

This old giant’s been around for very many  years

Seen wind and rain and even a few tears

But now he gone ready for the flames

Lying on the ground on a horizontal plane

EER_0567

No one knew he was rotten to the core

Everyone thought he would last a few more

But when that fateful wind gripped his strong limbs

He fell with a crash no holding back the wind

When all had gathered to wonder and know more

They saw to their shock he was hollow and rotten to the core

Things take their toll when death comes knocking at your door

Especially when you’re hollow and rotten to the core

Desert of Truth

IMG_0548

“They are so heavenly minded they are no earthly good.” I remember hearing this statement used to describe someone who is very religious, but really does not connect with the people around them. Sometimes I run into a person who goes on and on about their personal beliefs and it makes me want to run away.   But then there are others who not only talk about their faith but actually live an practice it in their daily life.  They show love to their neighbor and are ready to help in time of need. They actually care about others rather than their own agenda.  This is the kind of person who draws me to want hear what they have to say. Which kind of person are you.

Desert of Truth

Light without fruit makes a desert

Overwhelming all

Burning all

Driving everything underground

Faith without fruit creates a desert

Students running to the sand dunes at Kill Devil Hill 001

No shade No water No food

Just intense overpowering repulsion

For all to avoid

Grace Mercy and Truth

Fruit to feed on

A well to drink from

Shade of protection to come under

Don’t let your life become a desert

Don’t let your truth become

Light to avoid

Let your Love reach out to all
