Life is a Poem

Life is a Poem
Everything in life is a poem waiting to be written.
Most do not hear the poets call or feel the inspiration
But for those who look and listen there is music ;
poems to be written // deep emotions to be felt
that can only be expressed in words.

Those who pause // make life stand still
and open their soul …
They understand it loud and clear.
as words resonate // echoing through the mind

Poets are like pleasant speed bumps
that slow you down and make you listen;
Sometimes giving you a big jolt
When you least expect it.

Poets are fearless prophets // writing of love and hate
Politics and Religion // joy and strength;
Raising consciousness //challenging norms;
Searching for words that express Truth
Bringing Light to the world.

Awareness

EER_0152 (2).JPG
Awareness
Sometimes it’s not in the searching
But in the realization of what is already there
Our struggle to become someone else
The desire to make a difference in the world
Searching for a spouse who matches our list
Thinking fate is out there beyond our reach
In fact, it is often staring us in the face
Forget the fake façade of unreality TV
Do your best become indispensable
And finally open your eyes
See that person across the desk
Who has been there with you all along
Biding their time
Waiting for you to realize
That
Sometimes it is not in the searching
But in the awareness of what is already there

If you are like me you might like the photo that comes with a poem as well or better than the poem itself. The beauty of the photo grabs your mind and won’t let go. I received a poem some time ago from my sister. The beautiful field of flowers and the mountains in the background captivated me much more than the poem. I thought how superficial that I would go for a photo over a poem. Perhaps I am superficial.

Call Me Superficial

Call me superficial… when seeing a picture

Causes words to escape me

When beauty take precedence over substance

And I am drawn by what my eyes behold

*

Call me superficial when a picture in a story

Catches my attention and sets my mind on the fire

My imagination soars and transports my soul

To realms beyond word or pen

*

Call me superficial when melody and harmony

Lift my spirit from the very first note

Only to be followed by words

Adding to or taking away my feeling of awe

*

Call me superficial when the background blurs

Seven layers deep

And the last brush stroke is the first I see

*

All that work labor and toil

Only to end in an accent of light against dark

Beauty against substance

Eyes That See

Dwight at Okracoke

Eyes That See

Open the eyes of your mind

To see what is trying to peek in

Creativity begins there

Imagining seeing with an architect’s view

Grabbing the flicker coercing a flame

Starting with a glint creating a diamond

Open the eyes of you mind

Envision realities yet to be

Let them ruminate through the labyrinth

Collecting body forming a foundation

Visions of visions embedded in confidence

Evolving into being like the breath of God

Creating from nothing something of beauty

Seeing is believing with open eyes

Knowing what you see with your mind’s eye

Can become reality and form

Words you write can become visions

Inspiring others to see and believe

They too can create with open eyes

Edge of Inspiration

img_7013

Flying into Edmonton, AB a few years ago I watched the molten sun setting in the west. I snapped this photo through the plane window. The lava clouds were constantly changing as we dropped in altitude. The beauty of the sunset filled me with inspiration. There are so many things around us each day that could inspire us if we stopped long enough to see them.  We live in a digital world where special things like this photo might get a three second look and a, “That’s nice!” as we click on to the next special post. One thing lost with the flood of internet technology is the loss of savoring the moment! I like to live on the edge of inspiration, continually looking for the next thing that triggers a line or thought that I can write down and share with you . It might be an ant, a leaf, a bird,  or a beautiful shot like the one above.  Don’t become numb to allowing yourself to be inspired.

Edge of Inspiration

Living on the edge of inspiration

Brings everything into focus

Allows one to see and hear

What might have been missed

Living on the edge leaves

More to be experienced

Light and dark it all stands out

Shadows bring perspective

Mind sharpness makes everything clear

Watchfulness brings new joys

Seeing what would have been missed

Small things around us

We often ignore and walk on by

Beauty becomes thankfulness

For richness we see and treasure

Not in money or things collected

Simply experiential joy for what is

Recognition of nature’s wonders

Surrounding us each day

Letting go of the trivial

Noting the obvious

Through understanding eyes

Leaving one speechless

Writing rich poetry to devour
