Aimless Wandering/Wondering

Today I watch a big black ant

wander aimlessly through crags

and valleys of the willow bark.

Energetically he goes up and down

zipping along with great agility…

Nothing much being accomplished

from my point of view.

I wonder what he is thinking

during his mindless wandering.

As I watched, a little white dot

started moving up the crags as well

No bigger than pencil point,

he starts his upward climb…

stopping at times // becoming

a white dot on the tree once more.

And then there is a tiny creature

I had not seen before…

about the size of the chunk of wax

the nurse washed out of my ear,

perfectly camouflaged to match

the tree bark.

He began his upward move

climbing along the lifted grooves

of bark and pausing to explore.

Whatever he is finding is smaller

than my eye can see.

Perhaps little microbial creatures

lodged under the bark…

The perfect meal for a bug

that looked like a Star Wars machine!

Awareness

EER_0152 (2).JPG
Awareness
Sometimes it’s not in the searching
But in the realization of what is already there
Our struggle to become someone else
The desire to make a difference in the world
Searching for a spouse who matches our list
Thinking fate is out there beyond our reach
In fact, it is often staring us in the face
Forget the fake façade of unreality TV
Do your best become indispensable
And finally open your eyes
See that person across the desk
Who has been there with you all along
Biding their time
Waiting for you to realize
That
Sometimes it is not in the searching
But in the awareness of what is already there

Finding God

EER_0771

Somewhere amid the rules and regulations
The desire for correctness
The literal interpretation….
Underneath it all we hope to find God
Buried in the guilt and shame
Of imperfection // fallenness
We lie…
Controlled by our fears
Manipulated by our insecurities
Underneath it all we hope to find God
In creeds and sacraments of blood and wine
In stories of suffering // blessing // and chosenness `
We struggle to make right our wrongs
Knowing that…
Underneath it all we hope to find God
Our prayers ascend on wings of faith
Hoping to find an opiate for our pain
A clearing and focused mind
That can see and feel that…
Underneath it all we hope to find God
We open our heart to redeeming grace
Finally realizing // it’s not what we do
Not what we say verbosely to others
It is in forgiving others // and ourselves
That we find love and acceptance
And underneath it all we find God

Three Day Quote Challenge Day #3

I would like to thank Zenyswords for nominating me for the Three Day Quote Challenge. It has been very stimulating to exchange ideas and photos with all of you on this blog.

My quote today comes from J.R.R.Tolkien and sums up what I believe in relation to seeking  truth in my life. Just because I question or challenge the existing parameters does not mean I have no faith nor that I am not a believer. It means I want to understand what it is that I truly believe.
