Deliberately Indifferent

IMG_7016 (2)

I float among distant stars

Collecting starlight to share

Gaze deep into zinnias

Seeds of tomorrow preserved

I watch birds and hear their songs

Writing their tunes in my poems

Yet, your indifference stings

like little ants biting me

Today at d’Verse, Sanaa introduced us to writing Korean poems, full of nature and emotions of love and loss. They are written in couplets with seven syllable lines. I wrote this title down several days ago thinking I would use it in the future. Today is the day. Hopefully this one is close to what is expected. This is not about any one person, rather about all those who are collectively, deliberately indifferent. And, to all of you who deliberately stay connected and in tune, I say thank you so much!

My Verse

Some may ask the reason of existence

This short lived life…

Here today // gone tomorrow

Of what value is my being

Why do I write poetry

Paint pictures with words

Or with a brush

I write because

I am a member of the human race

I write because I am alive

Full of passion and urgency

Finding connection

Creating purpose

We are all part of the play of life

“…The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse…

What will your verse be?”

Today at d’Verse, Mish asked us to choose a favorite line from a movie and write it into a poem. I chose a line Robin Williams tells his class in the movie, Dead Poets Society. “…The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse…What will your verse be?”

Herringbone

I’ve been told that the largest sex organ in the body is your brain. Hooked on dopamine naturally flowing in my blood, I have found this to be true. Without the brain game everything else falls flat. As I think back on our days during mid-life, many wonderful memories come to mind. Fantasy and imagination are wonderfully erotic. Sharing this with the one I love has been an experience like no other.

Heat of passion burns

Wearing gold herring bone necklace

And nothing more

Today at d’Verse, Saana asked us to consider erotic poetry in literature. She asked us to try our hand at writing a classy erotic poem. I decided to do a Haibun that recounts a favorite image and memory for me. I took this photo many years ago. It has long since faded to orange, so I changed it to black and white.

God Speaks in Silence

EER_0525

Where does one hear the voice of God?
Is it in large cathedrals with towering spires
or from preachers who peddle the Gospel
like a Television infomercial” // New and Improved.
Does it come through what we put on // or what we take off
Perhaps in the mass emotion of the moment
Like an engine revved up to 5000 rpms?
I believes it come in silence. when we listen
To a bubbling stream or birds singing in the trees.
It come in the silence of a flower
Smiling up at us // waving in the wind.
Perhaps in a silent loving touch // no words needed;
Or, from the silence of the written word
Enlightening our minds // opening our eyes.
Sometimes it comes as we share ourselves with others
Our passion // our faith // our love // our compassion.
In the silence of our minds God speaks;
As we listen // living in the Spirit
We become the silent word made flesh;.
The silent voice of God to those willing to hear.

Live With Passion

winter 2020 005 (2)

As the cold of winter sets in
Warm your heart at the fires of passion.
Search out people of authenticity
Those who dare to live and bare it all.
Warm your spirit with Words of Life
And music that stirs your soul.
Live the life of your dreams // while you can;
Appreciate the passion of your children.
Stir joy and happiness into the smiles
Of your grandchildren;
For without family, the fires of passion
Tend to go out.

Blue Flame

gas ring on cooker

I learned recently, while watching an episode of Moonshiners, that the blue flame that is the hottest when using propane. When they distil the alcohol from the mash, they like to have the propane burner giving off a blue flame. This means the mixture of air and gas is at optimum performance.

Let me burn with a blue flame
Not orange or yellow;
Let me be intense
with the heat of inspiration.
Let the blue flame rise up
when abuse and injustice reigns
feeling the heat rising within
ready to speak to the issues that matter.
Let me burn with a blue flame
Hot as a moonshine still;
distilling the truth and letting it run
through my fingers and into my poems.
Let my mind bubble and churn
as the purity of my words become clear;
coming through one hundred and sixty proof.
And when my time is done
let it be a blue flame that returns me to dust;
as my spirit rises with that eternal blue flame.

In Pursuit of Passion

Tango

Authenticity is what we all look for

Whether poetry, music, religion, or friends

Not just words or feelings // but intense passion

That mystical quality of being transported

Into spiritual realms of heightened reality

Thousands turn out, not for the person(s)

But for the charisma // the passing of energy

Creating a lightness of being like no other

The fire in the belly // the anger of the soul

Draws us like a magnet bringing us together

At times intense expressions push us away

Repulses us out of fear or misunderstanding

But in the end // it is passion that drives us

Authentic soul stirring passion is our Heartbeat

Feel the Music

Sax player #4

Does great music stir your passion. Music has the ability to appeal to every mood. Those who play music know how wonderful it is to feel the music pulsing though your soul, like the blood pulses through your veins. A feeling like none other. Medicine for the soul.

Passion for music

Fills every part of our being

Summer night’s magic

Compromise

eer_0132

Compromise for some is not an option. But without compromise our government gets nothing done. When one group refuses to budge, we have what we saw in the Obama Presidency. Now we are seeing a similar resistance in relation to President Elect Trump. Members of congress refuse to attend the inauguration refusing to cooperate with this rogue president.  On the other hand we see that Hillary Clinton, who battled tooth and nail against Trump, is planning to attend is spite of her devastating loss.  I believe she has learned the importance of compromise in a Democratic Republic. The only other option is Civil War. There is no good outcome in that choice as we have already seen a hundred and fifty years ago.

Compromise

As much as we want things cut and dried

It always comes down to compromise

Right and wrong are in the pot

Stirred together in a common lot

We saw what happened in the reign of Lincoln

The South rose up to save their nation

The Union break-up was not an option

Lincoln stood firm to save this nation

Blood spilled from young and old

Tragic stories are still being told

This is the end when no compromise is found

It’s brother against brother devastation all around

One hundred fifty-six years later it’s still the same

No compromise here livid passion remains

We want it our way we won’t change our game

This attitude leads to the very same outcome

Without compromise our futures are undone

Is this what the Fathers had in mind

When in compromise they laid out their plan
