Little Boys…Big Dreams

Wright Brothers Memorial 001 (2)

A memorial to the Wright Brothers;
Young men with dreams of flying.
The beginning of something
greater than themselves
Remembered
with a giant monument of stone,
high on Jockey’s Ridge
in North Carolina.
***
Little boy visits and wonders
what it would take to
be remembered
with a monument of Stone.
***
It takes dreams
and the courage to live them out;
It takes someone to inspire
to encourage
and
to believe the impossible.

Frank Tassone’s Haikia prompt for today is Thanksgiving. As I was looking through my photo collection, I came across these pictures taken a few years ago. We decided to sit down together and all paint the same picture. Each one faintly resembles Looking Glass falls in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. I am so thankful for all my children and the wonderful things they will do in their lifetime.

ACC Madness Begins

EER_0113.JPGNorth Carolina fans love their sports teams. Every March, the ACC tournament comes right before the NCAA tournament. A solid weekend of basketball as all the teams compete for bragging rights and the ACC Trophy. We refer to it around here as March Madness! Next week it will start all over again as the best college teams in the country play for the NCAA Championship.  North Carolina and Duke have been leading competitors over the past years. We will see how they do this round!

What If…

IMG_6074

What runs through your mind

Wheels rumble beneath the floor

Kudzu overtakes the shores

of copper blue Lake Fontana

Riding deep into the Nantahala Gorge

Land where the Cherokee once lived

Now a place for tourists to come

Ride the train, go to the Casino

Gamble away their money

Compensation for the Trail of Tears

Do you ever wonder what it might be like

If the rest of us had not shown up

March Madness

UNC Saw

March Madness

Duke or Carolina the game is on

A race of sweat and tears

Happens every year

Just like clockwork

ACC tournament at stake

Two of the best want that title

Bucket for bucket // shot for shot

Tarheels are looking good

Blue Devils putting forth their best

Duke Saw

It all comes down to fouls and shots

To me the last five minutes tell it all

Running back and forth gets a bit tedious

I like the action as the seconds tick down

The unexpected last shot brings joy and sorrow

But then again… it’s just basketball

But not for some!

Dunrovin’

EER_0247

On our way back home from a funeral a couple of weeks ago, we came upon Dunrovin’ Country Store. It was just north of Southern Pines, North Carolina. This one of a kind place had everything imaginable packed into a one story building. Since we needed a break from driving, we decided to stop and see what it was all about. Their ice cream was wonderful! It was a very unique place. Here is our tour of the odd and the interesting items found there. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Small Town Trains

IMG_3003.JPG

Waxhaw North Carolina: Small town trains

Seems like almost every small town in North Carolina has a train track running right through the downtown and a water tower with the town name on it.  Trains roll through and shaking windows and rattling doors as they fly by!

Poetry in motion as the trains come rolling through….No words needed!!
