The Spirit of Christmas

When spirits join in perfect harmony
There is Peace
The joy of sharing one’s soul
Brings Balance
Spirits rise in joyful song
Experiencing Community
When spirits find joy in self-less giving
There is Gratitude
When God’s Spirit touches our spirit
There is Agape Love

Posted on d’Verse for the prompt Spirit. We are to write a quadrille of only 44 words using any form of the word Spirit.  To me, soul and spirit are very hard to separate. Today I have looked at spirit from several different perspective.

Utopia

In 1967, when I was in college, a group called the Youngbloods recorded a hit song with the lyrics Let’s Get Together and Love One Another Right Now…  It came out just as the Viet Nam war was ramping up. A call to peace and love, it was a reflection of the flower child generation of the day. I saw on TV that there is a commercial that is using this song as a musical backdrop. The words are wonderful, but as you can see we still have not gotten the message. This poem reflects this same sentiment.  Listen to the song at the end of the poem.

Utopia

Think how great our world would be

If we supported one another more

And left the criticism at home

As we go out the door

Think how great our country would be

If we prayed for our president more

Seeking wisdom, guidance, and freedom from war

Where congress works for the people they serve

Instead of special interests making deals on the curb

Think how great our world would be

If people of all faiths could finally agree

Where those who believe differently

Embrace one another and agree to disagree

Listening to one another without controversy

Think how great our world would be

How much less stress we all would carry

If the networks broadcasted the good people do

Instead of murders killers and political brew

Think how much better the world would be

If following the Golden Rule was our creed

Loving one another with God’s love and forgiveness

Treating our brothers with care and acceptance

We all know this is only a dream

Our dangerous world sometimes makes us scream

But it is nice to think about, if only for a moment

A utopian world where Love is prevalent

Superficial

eer_0075

Call Me Superficial

Call me superficial when seeing a picture

Causes words to escape me

When beauty takes precedence over substance

And I am drawn by what my eyes behold

Call me superficial when a picture in a story

Catches my attention and sets my mind on the fire

My imagination soars and transports my soul

To realms beyond word or pen

Call me superficial when melody and harmony

Lift my spirit from the very first note

Only to be followed by words

Adding to or taking away my feeling of awe

Call me superficial when the background blurs

Seven layers deep

And the last brush stroke is the first I see

All that work labor and toil

Only to end in an accent of light against dark

Beauty against substance

Spiritual Ecstasy

IMG_0671

What is the greatest feeling you ever experienced?   I believe it is when two people share a moment together so powerful that it leaves them both with a natural high. It might be sticking a landing at the Olympics, playing the guitar with a good friend performing a song to perfection, a choir performance so great that it leaves both the choir and director with chills,  a climber standing on the summit taking in the vista, a concert so powerful that it fills your soul, or two lovers in a climactic embrace. These are all are examples of what I would call spiritual ecstasy.

Spiritual Ecstasy

Brain explosion dopamine rush a natural high

Electrifying body, soul, and spirit

A union of kindred minds

Coming together in unmatchable synchronous pleasure

Penetrating spirits ecstatic joy

Blending in melodious harmony

Riding the crescendo letting it go

Ending in breathless laughter or unexplainable tears

Knowing something unrepeatably special just occurred

Whether between Finite and Eternal

Male and Female

Guitar picker and Banjo picker

Conductor and Orchestra

Child Performer and Proud Parent

Choir Director and Choir

Preacher and Sinner

Mountain Climber and Panorama

The result is still that same burst of chemicals

Lightning flashing orgasms of pure pleasure

Coursing like a runaway train through your brain

Ending in breathless laughter, joy, and sometimes tears
