The Unknown

Dwight & Ruth's Wedding0002 (2)

You might think ignorance and self-confidence are a strange combination, but when it comes to life, they are sometimes the secret to success. When we are young and invincible, we are ready to try anything. As we get older we are less and less inclined. We are fortunate not to know what the future holds.

Ignorance and self-confidence
Take us places where
Rational thinking might slam the door.
Telling us it is too hard
…too much
…too complicated
…beyond our abilities.
Getting married // having a baby
Being a parent // growing old
All come without instructions.
Still // we step into the unknown
Thankfully ignorant of what the future holds
Knowing that somehow // we will make it
To the end //mistakes and all

We cannot depend on others to fulfill our dreams. We will be disappointed every time. If you want to make a difference. If you want to succeed at what you set out to do, you must find the inspiration within yourself to give you the life that will take you where you want to go. If you get praise, or accolades, they are simply icing on the cake. Hard work and persistence will make it happen. And above all enjoy the ride!

We can only fly

if we have dreams to be the

wind beneath our wings!

Down the Road

Motherhood is such a great responsibility. Today Amaya’s post, Vistas, discussing motherhood and spirituality.  She is a stay at home mom who has taken time off work to raise her family. The busyness seems at times to be overwhelming.  Parents have an awesome, but rewarding responsibility. This was my response to her great post.

Check out her blog and read the whole post.

Down the road

a few years,

you will look back

and realize

although the vista

was desired,

it was really

the journey

that is most rewarding.

On Track

Finding purpose in life comes with getting on the right track for you. It is very important to decide what your goals and purpose are, and then find a track that takes you forward to that destiny. You many not like being confined to tracks, but they will take you where you want to go. It reminds me of the Children’s story Little Toot about a little engine that thought he could have a better life off the track only to find it did not work for him.  Make sure the engine you hook to has the power to take you to your goal. But by all means stay on track.

Stay on track
It will make all the difference
Guidance and direction
All there for you when you’re on track
Staying on track demands focus and discipline
Jumping the track is not a good option
Usually ends in disaster and lament
Floundering and lost like a fish out of water
Tracks give you purpose a destiny to move toward
Staying in the groove rolling forward
With a solid base of confidence
This track you are on
Will take you where you want to go
Hook up with others on your way
They too are moving with you
You can switch tracks
Moving in different directions
But by all means find a track to follow
A destiny to move toward
Just avoid getting on a side track
That goes nowhere
Find engine that will take you there
People who can support you
And a purpose worth moving toward
And if you don’t give up…

You will Succeed!

Etch-a-Sketch Life

My granddaughter loves the Etch-a-Sketch. She made the beautiful sketch above working painstakingly on it for some time before leaving it for us as they left to go home. We kept if for a while knowing that it would not last, since any sudden movement could shake and erase.  I thought how this is a reflection of life. So often we strive to attain the things that won’t last and forget the those lasting values of family, faith, and love. What we instill in our children is what will last and pass on when we are gone. This poem reflects some of those things.

Etch-a-Sketch Life

Here today and gone tomorrow life is short

Like the grass in the field and the flower that fades

What legacy will you leave to report

Or when you go will life simply be erased

Like an Etch-a-sketch screen without a trace

Houses families and unfulfilled dreams

Gone in a heartbeat at the end of your race

Is what you create in this life while you’re here

Making a difference in those you hold dear

Learning good discipline to share and be kind

Values and character with love and good cheer

Things collected and attained with tall towers

Wealth and fame and political power

With the shake of God’s hand will all be erased

Passed on to others with  your name not a trace

As we celebrate Christmas and the joy that it brings

Remembering God’s love that we see in Him

Let us set our life’s goal on eternal things

Not things erased on the Etch-a-Sketch screen
