The Old Oak Tree

This is my latest project done during the few warm days of winter. It is the painting of a farm near Singers Glen, Virginia. During college dating years, we enjoyed some beautiful days there up under the oak tree on the hill. We even took our engagement photo next to that tree! I sent it to my niece, whose grandparents lived there.

So many great memories

Painting Hobbiton Mural

It was one of the most fun paintings I have ever done! A few years ago, I was asked by a neighbor down the street to paint a mural of the Hobbiton Shire, on their garage wall, for her husband’s Christmas present. He was a big fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was my first attempt at anything quite this extensive, but I agreed to do it. I tried to incorporate significant parts of the story into the painting. This is how it turned out.

Paints spread colors wide

Across neighbor’s garage wall

Each Day a Gift

IMG_4969 (2)

These days, every day is a gift….

but then again, it has always been that way!

The significance of being becomes more significant

the closer one gets to the horizon

Freedom becomes being able to get up every morning

have breakfast and enjoy the day

Rumblings of disease and discord are stealing our rainbows

along with the imaginary pot of gold!

The simple life we longed for is now a never ending experience

leaving us ready // itching to get out an about once more

Death has always been on the horizon for each of us

It is just a part of our life experience at any age

But, until that time let us enjoy the gift of life

For tomorrow things will change…

Treasured Gift

egg 4

egg 2

Many years ago my wife worked as an office nurse for a doctor who appreciated her skills as an RN. To show his appreciation for her good work he created this egg to give to her.  He blew out the egg and painted the mountains on the outside. With a scrapple, he very carefully cut the round door in the shell. He painted the inside and then used sutures to make hinges so it could be opened and closed. It was a very special and is a treasured gift.

Treasured Gift  (a Quadrille)

An appreciative doctor

A skilled nurse

A gift of an egg

Hand painted//

Mountains…

Inside and out

A little round door//

Hinges of suture strings

Cut with precision care

For a special nurse//

Fragile beauty

Long remembered

Handled with care//

Always a Treasured Gift

We were asked by Kim at d’Verse to write a quadrille of exactly 44 words using the word egg in any form we choose. This egg is very special to us.
