Bottom Leaf

DSC_0535 (2)

In an everchanging world, I find myself struggling with the way in which things are moving! Life goes on whether I want to come along or not. As I watch the struggles of social groups and see the injustice that has long plagued our country’s history, I wonder where we are headed.  History like politics has very dark times. We can embrace it, be offended by it,  or attempt to deny it, but it will always be there.  As the next generation comes on, I hope they learn from history instead of repeating it.  I pray that we can all learn to live with each other, allowing for our differences in values and beliefs without feeling like we need to impose ours upon everyone around us. Uniqueness has always been our strength!
Sometimes I feel like the bottom leaf of a plant
Birthed from seed // providing sustenance for a time;
Now eclipsed by more recent growth rising above…
Providing new solar sources to feed from…

Obsolete // no longer making that much difference.
Never meant to shine or blossom // I’ve done my job…
Supporting // nurturing new growth and change;

Yet, now that life has grown beyond me,
I am here // drying up at the bottom of the stalk
while growth and reproduction of values and thought
happens above me // in a world very different from mine.

Que Sera, Sera…

Que Sera, Sera…
Worry less about the future
Concentrate on today
No need to spend time on what might be
And miss out on what is
Aging brings questions of what is next
It also brings a treasure of what was
A life to share // a gift to give
No need to sit back and wait for the end
Stay in the game // play hard to the end
Enjoy all life has to offer as long as you can
Be grateful for the blessings of life
Love deeply // feel every emotion
Share the joy of this moment in time
Be the best you can be today
Let God have your tomorrow
…Whatever will be, will be

The Unknown

Dwight & Ruth's Wedding0002 (2)

You might think ignorance and self-confidence are a strange combination, but when it comes to life, they are sometimes the secret to success. When we are young and invincible, we are ready to try anything. As we get older we are less and less inclined. We are fortunate not to know what the future holds.

Ignorance and self-confidence
Take us places where
Rational thinking might slam the door.
Telling us it is too hard
…too much
…too complicated
…beyond our abilities.
Getting married // having a baby
Being a parent // growing old
All come without instructions.
Still // we step into the unknown
Thankfully ignorant of what the future holds
Knowing that somehow // we will make it
To the end //mistakes and all

When Robots Rule the World

See the source image

Top of the Chain

Since robots don’t eat // are they part of the chain

When transformers rule the world

Just metal, wire, and silicone chips…

All put together with intelligent blips…

When robots rule the day?

Imagine the day when humans can say

They are no longer the top of the heap

Would they, like we, instinctively prey

Making us run for our lives to keep

Would their drones attack your house//your home

Would they grab us when we’re all alone

Would they be like us // attack, kill, and maim

On those further down the food chain

Would they transform into killing machines

Just like their creators have been

Created in our image // what more could they do

Than become just like us… me and you

A scary time it surely will be

When Robots rule the world

Cynical Reality

EER_0001

I believe that faith and proof are really contradictions and tend to get us nowhere. It is interesting to me how some people say they believe by faith and yet spend endless amounts of time trying to prove that their faith is reality based on the Bible, or on history, etc. Reality is not found anywhere in the definition of faith. In the Christian Bible Hebrews tells us that faith the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen!  In essence it is telling us that faith is a belief in something that has no tangible reality. So to try to prove it to be otherwise is contradictory. Our belief system  is based on faith. Faith is what we believe is the truth of God in our lives.  The only tangible evidence we need is that my faith works for me. I can only tell my own story. Beyond that it becomes your story to tell. What the future holds remains to be seen.

Cynical Reality

Pursuing knowledge down roads of history

Truth collections worn as halos

Crosses robes and purple hearts

Learned studies revealing questions

Drawing us into an never ending spiral

In pursuit of truth that makes

It no longer faith out of necessity

Rather truth in its actuality

What contradictions we offer

Finding faith and actuality

On the same train

Finding reality and unreality

To be identical twins

In the end finding love

To be the ultimate unending truth

And faith the ultimate unreality

How foolish we are to attempt

To prove the substance of things hoped for

And the evidence of things unseen

The Road You Take

EER_0186.JPG

The Road You Take

There is only one road in your life

That is the road you take

Broad or narrow

You may stand in the snowy woods

Or the middle of the desert

The foot of a mountain

Or the edge of the jungle

But for you there are not two roads

There are no what ifs

No I wish I hads

There is only the road you take

Your future is where you are headed

It is only the choice you make

This road your take

Will define your present

And  your future

When Books Are Gone

eer_0457

Just imagine a world without books. Do you think that is the path we are taking? Technology is developing at exponential speeds. I Wonder how history will be recorded in a way that will be retrievable in the future centuries. Just imagine if the Dead Sea Scrolls had been box full of floppy discs or flash sticks for outdated machines. If technologies go bust, will there be any smart people left who can think and reason and figure things out without the aid of a computer? We can’t even find our way back home without our GPS!! Imagine that!!

When Books are Gone

In the year 2117 when the chip holds all

And we are dumb and machines are small

Thinking replaced with the gospel of the chips

No need for books we now have clicks

What will happen when books are gone

Transcribed to machines all stored in one

Technology expanding like the galaxy before us

No need for that archaic form to show us

The tips of our fingers wait to tell all

Brains lose function in technology’s crawl

Deduction and inference there seems no need

Who needs a brain with lightning fast speed

Perhaps by then the robot we’ll become

That perfect model yes that’s the one

Straight forward living all creativity gone

Just remember the password that’s on our phone

Machines tell it all just like a bad dream

When they don’t work makes you want to scream

But in 3117 what will they find in our concrete caves

Scattered across our landscape looking just like waves

With no books to open and no words to read

Just plastic and metal and a password to feed

Imagine now how shockingly odd it will be

In the world of the future with no books to read

Charcoal Remains

Charcoal Remains

Devastation burns its way into my soul

How can I rebuild from these ashes my life

Everything’s up in smoke only charcoal remains

How can I survive this intense pain and loss

Where do I go from the depths of despair

My canvas of life lies before me

Charcoal a reminder to sketch a new picture

I work on that sketch and paint in days to come

A life full of color and beauty all around

Letting seeds of hope back in I paint

Wiping away the charcoal no trace of smoke

A paradigm shift from the life of fire and devastation

Charcoal remains but only for sketching

Bright dreams of hope live once more

What is a Book?

favourite_books

I wonder if books will one day become obsolete.  Perhaps they will be like hieroglyphics dug up by archeologists.  My grandparents never imagined anything like computers, that can store and retrieve information in an instant. I watched in awe at the emergence of digital machines over the past fifty years. Who knows what will be invented in the next fifty.  I decided to use my imagination and write a humorous poem about books in the future year of 2616!

What is a Book

Will someone ask in 2616

What’s this odd thing I found in a bin

Packed full of paper and covered with words

Who would save this how absurd

Archeologists say it looks like a book

Haven’t seen one of those I never had a look

What a cumbersome stack of papers

Reading through that would give me the vapors

All this could be stored on the point of a pin

A chip so small and so very thin

They say there were buildings full of these things

They called them libraries and invited people in

To sit down and read the print on the page

And check out books it was quite the rage

If they took it out and didn’t bring it back

A fine was charged to remind them of that

Can’t imagine ever reading a book

Can you imagine how much time that took
