Time Slippin’

EER_0008

As time slips by I find joy in moments
Beauty of yellow wildflowers swaying
Song of bright red Cardinal singing sweetly
The world around me struggles with rebirth
The same weeds come up from long hidden roots
Pulled so plump red tomatoes can grow

This is Quadrille Monday at d’Verse Poets Pub. Linda asked us to write a Quadrille of exactly 44 words using the prompt slip. My poem today deals with the passage of time; living one day at a time, and being in the moment of awareness of all that is going on around me.

Crowning Glory

Years of nurishment

Rhododendron blooms purple

Crowning Glory

Each flower uniquely shines

Just like each of us

*****

You my dear surpass all others

Blooming beauty shines within

Love for all to share

Beautiful  gray hair reflects

Your outer Crowning Glory

Today’s poem is written as a Tanka, the third five line Japanese poetic form shared on d’Verse this week. .

https://dversepoets.com

Tanka enjoys a long history in Japan. Originally known as waka (short song), the 5-line verse poem was the medium of literary exchange during the Heian era, the golden age of ancient Japanese culture. Courtiers and emperors alike composed them. Lovers would often share their devotion through the exchange of them.

The second stanza of the poem above reflects the true intent of the tanka.

Tea and Pain

Twisted joints aflame

Hot tea makes one forget pain

Flowers bloom outside

Ruth said this is the way it really is….

Twisted joints inflamed
Holding heat eases the pain
Flowers bloom in my heart

Ant Universe

IMG_1874 (2)

The first spring flowers appear yellow gold along the creek. As I looked closer, I saw a tiny ant crawling on a petals. I wonder what drives ants. Is it simply instinct or do they actually think about what they are doing. Are they just robots of the creator, or do they like we, think beyond themselves and wonder, “What else is out there?”

Early Spring

crucus bloom

Spring came early this year. Feels like March rather than February. Flowers are blooming in all their glory. More cold weather is predicted. Will they last? Only time will tell.

Fingers of sunshine

Petals of lavender-blue

Spring beauty soon gone

Lone Crocus

IMG_1390 (2)

Touches of spring come up out of the ground, reminding us not to despair. Warm weather is just around the corner. I saw this lone crocus shining in the pine-bark mulch along my sidewalk. The tiny green sprigs accenting the egg-yoke colored blossom is a joy to see. The daffodils are already starting to bloom as warm southerly breezes  continue through this week here in North Carolina.

Sunshine pushes through

First Bloom

IMG_1360

The daffodils began showing a couple of weeks ago. I saw the buds had formed last week. Today the first bloom opened in the sunshine along my front walk. With more cold weather to come, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Mild winter // cool rains

Bring daffodil bulbs to life

Blooming before spring

Last Blooms of Summer

IMG_9422

Outside my kitchen window a sunflower keeps blooming
Not worried in the least about predicted frost.
Zinnias continue to bloom as well, overcoming mildew;
A great lesson for all… Bloom through to the end;
Frost is inevitable in our lives, but beauty can remain.

Flawless Beauty

EER_0544.JPG

Beauty on Beauty
There you were in the middle of my shot
Resting on a petal sunning yourself
Surfing all that beauty
Drowning in light
Reflecting every minute detail
Flawless yet simple
Elegant
An engineering work of infinitesimal design
A gift from the creator of all wonders
The image of excellence
Beauty on beauty

Bees & Butterflies of Summer

IMG_8146

Butterflies and bees are back again, enjoying all my colorful zinnias. Even the humming bird could not resist. It is wonderful to see them flitting from flower to flower, not worried in the least that I am standing among them taking their photos.
