Heart Flambeau

Your flaming words wrap

themselves around my flatlined

heart // bringing new life…

Playing music on heartstrings

Melodies of love on fire

In Pursuit of Passion

Tango

Authenticity is what we all look for

Whether poetry, music, religion, or friends

Not just words or feelings // but intense passion

That mystical quality of being transported

Into spiritual realms of heightened reality

Thousands turn out, not for the person(s)

But for the charisma // the passing of energy

Creating a lightness of being like no other

The fire in the belly // the anger of the soul

Draws us like a magnet bringing us together

At times intense expressions push us away

Repulses us out of fear or misunderstanding

But in the end // it is passion that drives us

Authentic soul stirring passion is our Heartbeat

Cleansing Fire

IMG_9582

Each evening we see the videos of the out of control fires in California. The latest one was started by someone with intent. The fire turned into a roaring inferno, destroying whole communities.  The evil that was perpetrated on homeowners will take years to recover. The landscape will recover faster. Forgiveness comes with a price.

Cleansing fire roars through

Fueled by dry summer brush

Souls need cleansing fire

Devil’s fire swept hillsides clean

Holy fire brings humility

Franks Tassone challenged us to remember the wild fires burning in the West.  Ironically the fire referred to as “Holy Fire” is the one started by arson .  We are to do a Haikai poem that uses or eludes to the word fire. I did a spinoff on this by looking at the way this fire might affect those who are victims of the damage it caused and the deaths that resulted, and how the Holy Fire of the Spirit is the only thing that will bring forgiveness.

Three Day Quote challenge #1

Three Day Quote Challenge
“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.
It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.
We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
― Albert Schweitzer

Backfire (a Quadrille)

Farmall M 13

The old red Farmall M

     sits idly in the field

Not shiny red,

     but still

     its engine roars

     like fifty Harleys

     passing by

Shotgun cracks

     shoot fire into the sky

Grandson and Grandpa

     enjoy the flame

     that blows out its pipe

     with every crack

Today Dee asked to write a Quadrille for d’Verse Poetry Pub and use the word fire in in it.  This old tractor holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I drove one as a teen on my uncle’s farm for five summers. Now they are just show pieces for collectors.

Music in the Key of G

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Most of us think of music as something that is sung or played on and instrument. We may not be aware that there is music all around us. Music is the arrangement  and production of sounds and tones with unity and continuity. This poem shares all of the sounds around us that we might take for granted that have a musical quality to them. I did the painting above to show that music has movement and flow throughout.

Nature’s Music in the Key of G

Ebb and flow creating music for our ears

Oceans rolling gently onto a sandy beach

Crashing waves revealing the power of nature

Washes away anything in its path

A bubbling stream rolls over the rocks

Flowing in harmony with wind and birds

Listen to the rain beating down on a tin roof

Nature’s washboard of Cajun rhythms

Now and then a percussion clap of thunder

Punctuating the music with a boom

As flashes of the ELO lights the stage

The rustle of snare drum leaves

Playing to sandy perfection under it all

Rising and falling as the wind conducts

Little wrens with piccolo voices

Add harmonic pitches to the production

The cold snowy winds of December

Whistle as they sneak ‘round our porch

Playing against the crackling fire

Licking the burning logs with smacking lips

So much music all around

The frogs on warm summer nights

Cicadas making their seventeen year debut

Cricket violins playing behind hearth stones

Wild geese honking

As they fly north to their summer homes

All bring their harmonies to the score

Blending in the ebb and flow

Of nature’s grand symphony in the key of G

Charcoal Remains

img_9817_1-black-and-white-fire-painting

Charcoal Remains

Devastation burns its way into my soul

How can I rebuild from these ashes my life

Everything’s up in smoke only charcoal remains

How can I survive this intense pain and loss

Where do I go from the depths of despair

My canvas of life lies before me

Charcoal a reminder to sketch a new picture

I work on that sketch and paint in days to come

A life full of color and beauty all around

Letting seeds of hope back in I paint

Wiping away the charcoal no trace of smoke

A paradigm shift from the life of fire and devastation

Charcoal remains but only for sketching

Bright dreams of hope live once more
