Seasons

IMG_E1649 (2)

Can one change the seasons or rush them into being

Make the Earth move faster in its revolution around the Sun

They all move in their designated times and spacings

*

Try as we may we cannot rush nature’s happenings

When we realize we too are part of that natural cycle

Perhaps we can relax and enjoy life happenings

*

We live in a world of beck and call // demanding

Results in minutes and hours // not months and days

Entitled souls // we believe we’re deserving

*

Nature has stopped us in our tracks

Showed us who really sets the course of our lives

And leaves us lying flat on our backs

*

As the world turns and the seasons change

Earth will be here long after we are gone

Reclaiming itself // and only our fossils will remain

Mars

Mars

You may have heard the idiom, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” We live on the most beautiful planet in the Solar System. Mars on the other hand is covered with orange iron oxide and powerful windstorms that sometimes cover the whole planet. This leads me to wonder why we are attempting to send astronauts to Mars sometime in the future.

Mars // the Red Planet
A desolate chunk of iron
No spring flowers there

Frank Tassone hosts d’Verse Poets Pub today, and has asked us to use Mars as our prompt for our Monday Haibun.

The I am the Earth Theory

Ptoloemy theory (2)
I realize there are some of you who see things differently , but this is my opinion. You are welcome to share yours.
Like Ptolemy before us, we believe
we are the Earth, and everything revolves around us.
(figuratively speaking of course)
There are many who believe we humans
are destroying the planet
through self-centered carelessness
that causes global warming.
Populations explosions are putting
more and more demands on the Earth.
I believe in due time
the Earth will take care of itself;
Perhaps through famine, draught, illness or war.
Ecosystems have come and gone, as well as species
The Earth has been around long before us;
And will very likely be here long after we are gone.
When we cry over Global warming,
It is like attending the funeral of a loved one.
We mourn deeply for the loss;
But, we mourn even more for ourselves
and how the loss will affect us ongoing.
Earth’s heartbeat continues;
It will take more than we puny human beings
To destroy the Earth.
It will take something much more cataclysmic!
We are just warts on a sleeping giant.
Its rumbles, stretches, and groans
will continue to reshape
what we understand the Earth to be.

The Intersection of Infinity

1-artwork-of-the-infinity-symbol-mark-garlick-e1546876615788

Caught at the intersection of infinity
Earth’s conception began
“Without form and void”
Matter brought forth // our Earth is formed
At the intersection of infinity
Time as we know it began ticking
Capturing eternity in a fragile snow globe
Still being shaken from time to time
At intersection of infinity we appeared
Formed, created, or evolved we are here
Birthed by an intercourse in time
Just as every living thing that followed
Was born…

At the intersection of infinity… Love was born!

Amaya at d’Verse asked us to look at birth as our prompt and write a poem incorporating some aspect of the word. I have been mulling this one around for a while and this seemed to be a good time to put it in words.

Just Imagine

EER_0683 (2)

I am always amazed at the imagination we have and how far mankind has come over the centuries…. then I look at nature!

Imagine
The thrill of the imagination
Takes us places we can never go
Beyond this earthly home
Out into the solar system
Wrapping our minds around the
Concept of a galaxy in a world far far away
Imagine going into the depths of the earth
All the way to China as we used to say
…Our way of saying very deep
Imagine riding with Voyager
As it continues to sail out into the universe
Beyond our solar system to worlds unknown
Having paid its dues in 2012 sailing on
Singing I’ll fly away oh glory I’ll fly away
Who are the imaginers of the present
With visions beyond this realm
Pushing the outer limits in ways yet to be
Not content to live in Earth’s isolation
Rather seeking ways to imagine
The reality of a Star Trek generation
That will stretch our imaginations even more

All of our achievements amount to very little when compared to the world around us, and the universe… which is beyond imagination!

I cannot imagine that it all just happened with a Big Bang!!

What’s Up?

Earth Rise.jpg

If, when we die,
we go up to heaven…
Do folks in the Southern Hemisphere
go down?
And when we travel
out in space…
Do we go up or down?
Up seems only valid
when there is
an Earth that grounds us…
Looking up!

Quadrille Monday…   Today, at d”Verse, De Jackson asked us to consider the word up. I decided to attempt to add a bit of humor to my Quadrille of only 44 words.

Perspectives

Earth Rise

In light of the events of this past week. it seems everyone has their own perspective on the charges made against Supreme Court Nominee Brent Kavanaugh. Some minds were made up before the hearings took place. It is very easy to become divisive when we choose to look at things from only one perspective. This painting I finished this  week helps illustrate what I am trying to say.

How we view something

Depends on where we’re standing

Step back //  look again

Imagine

eer_0683

Imagine

Imagine a burning speck of dust

Riding over the highest arc

Of a galactic fireworks

Heading outward cooling yet hot

One of a quadrillion sparks

Lighting up the Milky Way

Shooting toward infinity

Imagine that cooling spark

IMG_4160

Contains trillions

Of smaller pieces of energy

Spinning and floating

Binding and loosing all of this beauty

img_3056

While sailing at the speed of light

Imagine that inside those pieces of energy

Trillions more particles bump and grind

So fast that they hold everything together

img_4980

Imagine that within that mix

You and I

Are miniscule parts of that one

Moving speck of dust

Now imagine

That controlling all of this action

Is a God

Who loves You and Me

…This is Faith
