Light Outshines the Darkness

In the Christian faith we celebrate Good Friday, remembering the suffering and death of Christ on the Cross at Calvary. But it is not the dark night of the soul that draws us to God’s Love and Grace. It is the joy of Easter and the Light of the Resurrection that gives us hope. The Light at the end of the dark tunnel is Jesus!

Friday night’s darkness

Seems like dark evil has won

But Sunday’s coming

*

Light overwhelms sad darkness

Drawing us all toward bright hope

Feeling Rejected

IMG_5876 (3)
On Good Friday Christians reflect on the death of Christ on the cross, and what his sacrifice means for us. The human side of Jesus suffered unspeakable physical pain. Some say that God will give you strength in your time of need. But it is my experience that when that time comes, it is very difficult to feel that presence. Even Jesus cried out on the cross, wondering why God had forsaken him in his darkest hour. Pain and rejection seem to be Siamese Twins! It is very hard to have your whole world collapse and not feel rejected. This is why it is so important to have persons who will walk with you and help you regain your perspective once more, understanding that God loves you even when you don’t feel it.

Dark night of the soul
Feelings rejection’s pain
Forsaken // alone
Stretched out on life’s cruel cross
Has God turned his face from us?
In His pain he cried
“My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me!?”
Feeling rejection’s pain
In that dark night of the soul

Resurrection

Chris's family Easter 2010 012

Resurrection

Behind every cross the sun is shining

Out of defeat comes resurrection // new life

No matter how difficult the road ahead

Nor how heavy the cross we might bear

Hope lies in the understanding that

Behind every cross the Son is shining!

Happy Easter to all of you

Johnny Cash says it best… about that one solitary life…  Here Was A Man

I was There

Chris's family Easter 2010 011

Several years ago our church choir director suggested that I write a song for our Easter sunrise service. I accepted the challenge and tried to write a song that captured the essence of what Christ did, when he died on the cross for the sins of the world, past, present, and future. To me that means all that I have done and will do, that would have condemned me, has been nailed there with him that day. So in a way I was there, because it was my sin, as well as all others, that put him there. This is what I came up with.

I was There

When they nailed him to the cross I was there

When they laid him in the grave I was there

All my sins were nailed with him to the cross that day

When Jesus suffered and died for me

*

Jesus saw who I was and he loved me

He loved me because he knew

That the blood he shed could make me clean

And erase all my guilt an pain

*

Then he rose victorious from the grave

He defeated Satan’s power over me

By God’s grace I am saved

By his blood I am cleansed

By his power I am now free

*

Jesus saw who I was and he loved me

He loved me because he knew

That the blood he shed  could make me clean

And erase all my guilt and pain
