Seasons

IMG_E1649 (2)

Can one change the seasons or rush them into being

Make the Earth move faster in its revolution around the Sun

They all move in their designated times and spacings

*

Try as we may we cannot rush nature’s happenings

When we realize we too are part of that natural cycle

Perhaps we can relax and enjoy life happenings

*

We live in a world of beck and call // demanding

Results in minutes and hours // not months and days

Entitled souls // we believe we’re deserving

*

Nature has stopped us in our tracks

Showed us who really sets the course of our lives

And leaves us lying flat on our backs

*

As the world turns and the seasons change

Earth will be here long after we are gone

Reclaiming itself // and only our fossils will remain

Being Control

IMG_1944 (2)

O how we value being in control
Knowing we alone affect an outcome
Absolutely sure we’re unquestionably right
Even when we’re wrong
O how we value composure
Keeping that strained pained smile
Even in the face of the most obnoxious
Pretending actions do not offend
O how we value knowing
Never asking for help
Ignoring the urging to ask
Believing though lost // we still know
O how we value pretenses
Be it wealth, skills, or the perfect marriage
Never let our weakness show
Always well put together smiling
O how we value affirmation
Selfies on Facebook // time after time
Promoting our accomplishments
Never satisfied // always seeking more of being in control

Nature Theory

IMG_5082.JPG

I believe nature is given to us
to show that we are only temporary.
Not the ones who control nature…
but rather, the ones who nature puts up with
in spite of all our wasteful self-centeredness.
If we were to disappear // gone for ever…
nature would continue to flourish without us
taking over the earth // erasing every trace
of our existence on this planet.
When we spewed crude oil into the Gulf
it was only a short time
until nature had swallowed it up…
Swallowed it up and buried it
under the sludge below.
Volcanoes continue to erupt changing the surface
creating new land to be worn down.
Mt St Helen erupted blowing rock and ash for miles
sending up dust into the atmosphere helping to close
the ozone hole, that we once heard so much about.
As the earth warms and populations increase
we can make every effort to “save our planet”.
But it is only a matter of time until nature takes it toll
Changing our life on earth forever.
Whether for good or ill remains to be seen…
All of our digital AI will have little affect

Today at d’Verse, Merril asked us to write about a theory, real or imagined. We hear so much about Global Warming and how it will affect our planet. My theory is that we are very limited in what we can do to stop it. With increasing populations on the earth it is inevitable that we will eventually destroy ourselves, if nature doesn’t do it for us first! Feel free to disagree with my theory, it won’t change a thing! The future remains to be seen! I think of Chernobyl and the way nature has taken over since the meltdown.  I enjoyed watching the PBS special 20 years after man disappears from the earth. It is fascinating to see how fast nature takes over everything. Feel free to share your opinions.

“Who’s that tripping…”

This is a picture of the Little Golden Book that was read to me in the early 1950s! The story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff has stayed with me all these years. The old grouchy Troll who lived under the bridge was outsmarted by the three billy goats.

Today at d’Verse, Frank asked us to write a Quadrille of 44 words using the word Troll. I immediately thought of this story from my childhood. It is one I remember enjoying over and over again, when I was four or five years old.

“Who’s tripping over my bridge,” said the Troll.
Childhood memories conjured up with great fondness
Courage and confidence displayed by small and large
Do the trolls in your life intimidate you…
Or, do you, with others, stand your ground?
Put Trolls in their place!

Independence Day

EER_0469.JPG

Independence Day (a Haibun)

Perhaps our understanding of freedom and independence is skewed by misguided expectations. Our Republic was founded on the principles of freedom under law. The question becomes whose freedom and whose laws. It seems that every time there is a social push for change, the ensuing freedom comes with expectations that everyone will get on board. When that does not happen, then it (our newfound freedom) becomes means of control and forced compliance. Too bad we can’t just enjoy our freedoms without insisting everyone has to see things our way!

Independence Day

Freedom to control others

The way we see fit

Frank Tassone asked us to look at the meaning Independence Day. What does it mean to be free and what are the necessities to remain that way. I believe we live in a country where the word freedom has been hijacked by those who want to control it. If that continues to happen we will no longer have a free society.

Fake Artificial Intelligence

Rush 2

        Fake Artificial Intellegence

As we stare hypnotized at LED screens

We somehow have convinced ourselves

That we hold truth in our digital hands

Reality somehow resides in this artificial screen

Artificial intelligence is only as smart

As those who feed the info into the grinder

As we are bombarded by AI all around us

We begin to drink the cool-aide one sip at a time

Never thinking only seeking the next feeling fix

Sucked into emotions that feed our perspective

Sound bites and pictures sculpted and scripted

Take us where we are willingly led

No logic or common sense in our sensational addiction

No question of moral or ethical consequences

As we bow down to our media gods of Limbaugh and Maddow

We sink deeper and deeper into the stupor of fake AI

Whatever happened to “Question Everything!”

Whatever happened to “Think for Yourself!”

Will future Artificial Intelligence be as fake

As the media we feed on today

Will thinking without emotion be the step

Leading us back to common sense

Or will AI feed us fake information

Controlling us like the children of Jonestown

Sacrificing our intelligence for one we created

Bowing down to the “truth”

Somewhere Above the Pain

Big Valley at Dusk -Rosalyn Alleman

Pain is one of the most difficult things one faces in life. Doctors can give us pain killers that can soon become addictive, or we can choose an other option. Some survive chronic pain is by learning to live above the pain. Most of us might  think choosing to ignore pain an impossible task. But, for those who are in continuous pain, that may be the only choice available if they want to have a better quality of life. I have seen this happen first hand and know it is really possible.

Somewhere Above the Pain

Somewhere above the pain there is life

A place where one can live and function

Where hopes and dreams can still be achieved

Living above the pain does not make it go away

It only allows one to be in control

Pain lies rooted in one’s being

A constant reminder

Rearing its ugly head

Vying for control

Only to be suppressed once more

By hope determination and faith

Unwilling to resign oneself to fate

Knowing that above the pain

Above the pills

There is light and hope

It is a choice one must make

Every day all day long

*A tribute to all of you who makes this choice every day, all day long!

Ants in the Universe

EER_0869

Ants in the Universe

Pesky little creatures

Smaller than a pencil point

Swarming up to protect their kingdom

Sacrificing themselves under my foot

Crawling up on my shoe

EER_0780

Looking for a piece of flesh

Leaving their imprint in my skin

Tiny dots of poison destroying flesh

EER_0884

Lasting six months or more

Itchy reminders of that harsh encounter

Reminds me of humans

Attempting to save themselves

In a universe beyond their comprehension

Leaving scars on the foot of God

Trying keep us in control

Sacrificing ourselves at all cost

In a universe we know nothing about
