Just Chillin’

*Chillin’ is an expression I heard used in Eastern North Carolina which simply means hanging around with nothing to do! I saw a sign on a fence post outside an old country store that read “NO CHILLIN’ ON THIS CORNER” . This little bird sleeping in my feeder today reminded me of that sign.

Chillin’ in the cage

Surrounded by all that food

Just like you and me

Heat Wave

Temperatures rising
Europe is having a heat wave
Looking for relief
Cows and people love water
Cooling off under shade trees
Swim as ships pass by
Skinny-dipping man chillin’
Right next to our ship!

Our prompt from Lillian today at d’Verse was temperature! It is getting hot, hot, hot, this summer! When we were on our trip up the Rhine, temperatures were in the mid 90s F. It was still a very enjoyable trip. We stayed in the shade as much as possible. All along the river people were camping and swimming finding relief from the heat.

Chillin’ on the Wall

Guineas are odd looking birds. I understand they are very good security guards and will make quite a racquet if strangers come around. I saw this pair on the wall of the Martin, Pa. Post Office when I was there last September. Martin is what is left of the coal mining era when coke was king. Coke ovens burned all along the railroad tracks. This is tiny post office for this small coal patch. Only a few of the original houses are still there.
