The Edge of Inspiration

EER_0069 (2)

Beyond Imagination
I have been pushed and shoved all my life
Thanks to friends who cared…
Seeing more in me than I see in myself
Learning to do more than I could ever imagine
From computers to art // writing memoirs // and poetry
Publishing books on Amazon //and writing a blog…
Things I never imagined ten years ago
Susan // Kym // and Tom
Encouraging // urging // helping me
Opening doors to new worlds of wonder
Imagination that knows no end
Wonderful friends all over the world
Communicating with me every day
Keeping me on the edge of inspiration

I am reposting this one again after thinking through my writing process on yesterday’s post.  I am forever thankful for friends, who I mention in my poem, who have urged me to move into the world of writing. Without their encouragement, I would not be writing this blog.
It is such a wonderful thing to be able to learn to know all of you. Your great writing and words of encouragement, given to me in your comments, keep me coming back for more. I have learned so much form all of you at the d’Verse poetry group. I am now writing poetry that I never even heard of two years ago! Thank You All!!

Why I Write

Poetry formt the Heart - cover photo

I write from a very visceral place down deep in my soul. Seventy years have left a lot of indelible tattoos on my soul that are just now coming to the surface as poetry. Aging, depression, Alzheimer’s, pain, and wonderful, spiritual goodness have all written their name on me. Now I am sorting them out one poem at a time.

I started writing poetry in 2013, and continue to do so because of the influence of a dear friend and poet, Kym Gordon Moore. As the head of a poetry group, she lit my fire for writing. Kym encouraged me to start a blog.  She introduced me to Tom Davis, Editor of Old Montain Press, who encouraged me to write my memoirs and put them on Amazon Kindle.  These two friends are the reason I write! Now I cannot help myself. I have to write! I feel like I live on the edge of inspiration!

I am a self-taught poet. I was not an English major, nor a reader of all the great works from poets of the past. I have found most of my inspiration from poets I follow on WordPress.  Many times I will be reading through your poetry and a bit of inspiration strikes me. I will take that and form a new and different poem as a result.  d’Verse has been a great help to me in learning new forms of poetry. I love all the challenges and the encouragement I get from you who choose to read my poems. Thank you!

Seeds of goodness grow

Warmed and watered by good friends

Blooms of hope and joy

Versatile Blogger Award

EER_0675

Chipmunks are very versatile creatures. They are smart enough to realize if they wait to eat their food they will have more in the end. So, they stuff their cheeks with as many seeds as they can and take them back to their home. This little guy lives under my deck I see him in my feeder a couple of times a day getting stocked up. He knows how to adapt to whatever environment he lives in. This is true of us poets  in the same way. We grab bits of inspiration when they are available and like the chipmunk stuff as many thoughts as we can in our brain to carry back to our computer.

I would like to thank https://emotionalnotions.wordpress.com/  for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award. It is wonderful to be connected to a group such as this one where art and poetry can become a daily stimulation.

700 Followers Today

EER_0004.JPG

As of today, my blog now has 700 followers! I want to thank each one who reads my daily blogs. Each time I get to a new milestone in blogging I think, wow how great to be able to connect with folks from all over the world. Some seek fame and fortune in the public eye. For me it is my friends that count.

Famous only Among Friends

It’s nice to be famous only among friends

Among friends is all that counts

Famous enough for this lifetime

It avoids a lot of unwanted baggage

Never ending expectations and tabloid garbage

No tours to make no books to sign

Just appreciation and love and that’s just fine

I still remember where I came from

And I am always home when the day is done

No paparazzi, flash bulbs, or sensational news

Only my friends care about my views

Yes, being famous is really great

The rewards are never late

My appreciation has no end

As long as being famous is only among friends

the-rules-of-the-sunshine-blogger-award

1.the back story behind your blog and the reason you did what you did

I began writing poetry and sharing it once a month at  a local cultural arts center. Kym Gordon Moore who also is a blogger on WordPress was a great encouragement to me and pushed me to move beyond the group and on to the web. I have written a book of poetry that is on Amazon Kindle under my name Dwight Roth along with a number of other books I have written. I have self-published several other books as well.

2.a song that always plays on your mind.

I Love so many different musicians and their songs. I grew up in the Sixties and love the folk songs like Blowin in the Wind by Peter Paul and Mary,  Simon and Garfunkle’s Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and later  Dust in the Wind by Kansas.

3. The author closest to your heart.

I  loved the writing of Wm. Paul Young in his popular book called  The Shack. It was a very intense and emotional story that went deep into my soul.

4. One experience that somehow evolved you

Being married to my beautiful wife Ruth has definitely changed me for the better. In December we will celebrate 47 years together. It has been a journey of ups and downs that have been challenging, but we are committed to make it work no matter what happens and so far so good!

5.dogs or cats?

We had a cat named Tiger for sixteen years. He was a great pet.

6.your favorite quote.

An artist dips his brush into his paint and paints his own soul.

I am a realist. I like to know what is happening and be somewhat in control of the outcome.  Most of the time that does not work out like I expect!!

8.one thing you love about yourself

I love relating to other people.

9.one thing that drives you beyond madness.

When people take advantage of others who cannot help themselves.
