Can you imagine living on an old boat
along a well traveled canal in Amsterdam?
Watching the days come and go as cruisers float by
Staring into your windows // taking pictures of you
Tired of waving // you just ignore them all…
like a passing freight train in your backyard.
Perhaps it’s the mystique or the novelty of it all
Winter, Spring. Summer. and Fall
The old boat sees it all…

Today at d’verse, Sarah asked us to write a poem related to boats. I thought of our trip last summer, which I have mentioned before, and our canal cruise in Amsterdam. I was amazed at how many people lived in old boats tied up along the canal. This is just a glimpse of what we saw that day.

Last summer we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a Rhine River Cruise. We started in Amsterdam and traveled up river to Basel. When we arrived in Amsterdam we had a half day to do as we pleased, so we went on a canal ride through the heart of Amsterdam. Below are some of the people we saw along the way.
Wherever we go
People are much the same as
You and me

Last Summer we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a Rhine River Cruise. It was a wonderful trip full of memories. If it had been this year, it would have been canceled with many different memories. I shot this photo as we took a canal cruise in Amsterdam. Little did I imagine how much the meaning of the poster could change in one year.

Today at d’Verse, we are exploring the use of Pop Art in poetry. Andy Warhol and others created art by using the mundane items of everyday life. The most common is probably Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup cans painted in repeated variations on the canvas. Today I decided to use bicycles I saw parked in Amsterdam. This is my Pop Art version.

On our canal tour of Amsterdam, we passed a boat load of wedding guests. The Wedding party and the couple’s parents were crowded into the boat. It was interesting to see the celebration beginning as they passed.

I found the canals and the people who live on them very fascinating. We took a one hour canal cruise around Amsterdam. It is a photographers paradise. These are only a few of the interesting things we saw as we rode along.
