Winter of my Mind (in this summer of my life)

EER_0599 (2)

I am in the winter of my mind, where shadows creep

and darkness comes early // seeming never to sleep…

closing in and overshadowing my thoughts.

Creativity remains with each bright new day

bringing a spot of sunshine from friends far away

of like minded bloggers and a few online friends.

I must close off the darkness // of  “hurricane News”

and “tornadoes of fear” // with darkness infused

leaving my mind destroyed by what I hear.

I’ll go back to my writing and pretend not to see

the streets in upheaval and the mothers who plea

for children caught in the crossfire // each day, it seems.

For truth these days seem more one’s perception

with marching politicians and Covid physicians

and dissent is met with racial accusations.

I am sharing this on open link night at d”Verse poets night.  With all that has been going on the past five months, I feel a little stir-crazy at times. Seems a lot of others feel the same way from all chaos I  see happening across the country, on the evening news. It pains me to see children shot, and no one seems to raise a voice or carry a sign for them. Very sad indeed! These are some of my thoughts as I stay in my cocoon!

I got my inspiration for this poem today, after reading Lynn’s Poem this morning:

Too Close For Comfort

April Fools Day is no joke for Joe Biden, as he looks at running for President in 2020. What might have been an expression by him of support for a fellow politician, turned into an accusation of invading personal space. Now, five years later, the subject comes up; possibly to keep the “old man” out of the race! Amazing how fast age puts one out of touch in the eyes of the younger generation.

Lion of winter
Born free // now caged with loud words
Paranas’ hungry

Our d’Verse Monday Haibun prompt for today centers around the date April 1st.  April Fools Day is a time when pranks are pulled and a fun time is had by most!  I decided to write about the political news of the day.   Feel free to disagree with my post, but this is how it looks to me!

Scarecrow Politics

EER_0287

Scarecrow politics seems to be the practice of the day. Brainless comments, accusations, and manipulations are scarecrows in the political arena, hoping to scare away those who would attempt to steal their position and power.  With Halloween just around the corner, one wonders what they will dress up like next!

Politics unchanged

Scarecrows and Smokescreens

No need for a brain

Frank Tassone asked us to do a poem for his Haikai Challenge using the Scarcrow as our prompt. I thought it fit right in with politics so I went there!
