When the honeymoon is over, and things have settled down
And the exhale that follows leaves you fully unwound
Dig a little deeper… create another round.
**
She’s pregnant with one and then there are two
And there’s no sleep at night and more work to do
Dig a little deeper… do your share too.
**
There are diapers to change and babies to feed
No time for you, life spins at warp speed
Dig a little deeper… let her know she’s the one you need.
**
When the kids have grown, and activities never stop
Enjoy those moments, help them come out on top
Dig a little deeper… cheer them on, enjoy their shouts.
**
When the empty nest is now your own
And all of your sweet children have long since flown
Dig a little deeper… as life moves on.
**
Time to rediscover who you are now
Relight the flame of love for a while
Dig deeper… find out who she is now
**
As the years move on and our bodies taunt us
with aches and pains and demanding sorrows
Dig deeper… find out who you are.
**
Life changes us whether we like it or not
Good memories of life and lessons to be taught
Dig deeper… reflect… and share them now …
**
Though they won’t be heard…
‘til we’ve been gone for awhile.

I grew nostalgic .. and a little sad reading your beautifully composed poetry. My former husband, father of our four children let Vietnam and many other roadblocks destroy a 22 year marriage. And I do not dive, a swimmer who could never win any medals, I promise I am.

Thank you Helen. I am glad this connected with you, although I am sad your first marriage did not make it. That happens too often it seems.
You talked like experienced swimmer.

Such true words, Dwight. Lessons some never learn, or only learn too late.

Yes, it seems so easy to bail out these days instead of digging a little deepre and making it work. Thank you.

Ah yes “dig a little deeper” there is so much respect needed in so many areas of life and (family life) we approach too superficially.
Thanks for dropping by my blog.
I enjoyed seeing and hearing you read yesterday.
Happy St Patrick’s Day

Woah yes, oh yes my friend! Right on Dwight! This hits perfectly in the 1-3 pocket! Unfortunately, how easy it is to get off center, and forget to follow through, leavin’ the dreaded 7-10 split — and that begins a near impossible situation. Take each step through life, carefully and deliberately, and you will score high. Excellent writing Dwight. Don’t ask me why I fell into a bowling groove? 🤔 🤷🏼♂️ Oh well… 🙂✌🏼

You rolled a strike with this response, Rob. We need to be teaching men in particular to stay the course instead of baling out when the going gets rough or does not suit them. Thank you so much for your unique and interesting response. I am glad it struck home with you.

I really like the repeated phrase, “Dig a little deeper.” You get out of life what you put into it. I think this could make a great song.

Before we know it, we are so much further along in life, married and our children out of the house, while we may have changed so much, yet some have remained the same, looking back on those many years that have flown by so much.
