In 2019 we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary by taking a once in a lifetime cruse up the Rhine River. It was a memorable trip that we will treasure forever. When we arrived back on the ship after touring the Cologne Cathedral, we found our curtains decorated with red hearts and a bottle of sparkling wine left in honor of our anniversary. We decided to take it along to dinner on our last night on the ship and share it with some friends we learned to know.

And everyone looks to be in the best of spirits too! Delightful haibun for the prompt, Dwight. Wow, you must have missed covid lockdown by a year? Good timing for the 50th!

ah yes, a cruise on the Rhine.. I am glad you enjoyed your anniversary. When I go back to Germany 3-4 times a year now, I always spend at least part of the time in a small friendly hotel across from the Dom, off the other side of the station concourse 🙂 will be thinking of you when I go in Jan, as a quick stop gap before retreating to spa bath Bad Ems nr Koblenz for a few weeks.

Thank you! Koblenz was a very interesting place. We went to see the Fortress and rode the Cable Car across the river!

oh good, will check out – I only vaguely remember Koblenz from crossing, on a cycling tour up the Rhine in my late 20s, heading for Stuttgart. This time it will be a more sedentary affair – 6 weeks soaking in the salty water in Bad Ems. 🙂 Thanks for bringing back memories. –

An excellent place to spend your 50th anniversary, Dwight, my old home town! I once worked for the tourist office in Cologne, which is opposite the cathedral.

That was a very delightful haibun for the prompt, Dwight. I’d love to take that river cruise someday. We loved in Germany for 6 months back in 1962 … celebrated our new union in Wurzburg while I taught 1st graders on the army base school. Would love to go back!
