Our lives
Like chalk on the sidewalk
Defined by blocks of little lifetimes
Drawn at birth… continuing on
One hop at a time
Until we make it to the end
Or misstep and hop out early…
As the chalk defining our lifetime
Washes away

Today De at d’Verse asked us to Chalk up a poem. We are to write a 44 word Quadrille using the word Chalk in any way we choose.

Indeed…. And our thoughts go more to these things with each passing year and each block that we jump… Yet still grateful to be in the game!

Yes, we are and yet still teetering on some blocks! Thank you for your thoughtful comment.

That is such a fascinating comparison. Hopscotch loved by most of us at some time experienced as life.

Hopscotch eh? Happy memories for me. Used to use an empty shoe polish tin as it would slide nicely. Life’s balances written within your quadrille too.

Hopping along well, I see. I watch my children play this game, and sometimes take part. We enjoy redrawing it after each rain. A rebirth, if you will.

Grim. But interesting. And quite true, though I don’t always want to look at those truths.
