Spring slams its door on winter’s icy blast
Calling the groundhog from its dark burrow
And snowbirds to make their way North again
As green shoots push their way up through dead grass
A symphony of yellow daffodils
Lift their silent voices in joyous song
Basking in warm blue skies and bright sunshine
While my tiny little wren sings happy trills
The hope of spring comes with evening frog songs
Rising from muck and mud to let us know
Their blended harmonies; Nature’s foreplay,
continues from pond and tree all night long
Flowers bloom, Russian tanks invade Ukraine
to satisfy Putin’s lust for power

I wasn’t expecting those last two lines. The situation in Ukraine sure takes the shine off the promise of spring.

It is a very sad situation. We cannot just assume that it is all over there and doesn’t affect us. We are experiencing warm temps here and flowers blooming. So good to see!

We’re in the midst of a snowstorm. My husband is clearing the driveway in stages.

Wow, what a difference a few lines of latitude makes.

I know! I’m seeing people posting all these photos of daffodils and snowdrops, and we’re buried in snow.

You are cold in Winter and cool in Summer. We are warm winters and scorching hot summers! I guess it is a trade off as to which is best! :>)

What I like best about the New England weather is that there are four very distinct seasons (five if you count mud season).

Our sun-zero temperatures and debilitating snowdrifts certainly give us no hint of the spring you’re experiencing. Thank you for sharing yours!

Give it a couple of weeks and thing will change. Stay warm!

You’re right! Things will change. And we need to get that 5’ snowdrift moved from our ramp before it melts and floods the downstairs bedroom again! 😩

A poem of hope for a sad, troubling week. Thank you, Dwight.
Yellow daffodils are herald-ers of hope, spring, growth…a message to hold on.
Prayers for the peoples on both sides who do not want war and will be hurt most by what is happening.

Thank you Carolyn. Yes, Spring has a way of creating hope. And War on the other had has a way of squelching hope.

Your spring is way advanced to what is here in MI, Dwight. Something so cheerful in that shade of yellow and its ruffles up against the green of its stem.

As I told Liz, it is amazing how much difference a few lines of Latitude make. The green and yellow are beautiful against the brown grass. It is a great prelude to spring!

Such a contrast, the delight of spring supplanting winter, but a darker winter lurks.

Sadly, dark winter is just beginning in the Ukraine.

Very beautiful daffodils, Dwight! I saw Putin’s face on the news when he spoke without a script. He surely showed lots of hated. Do we believe he said he wasn’t taking over Ukraine?

You gave me hope with the promise of Spring, and then slammed me back into reality. 2022 seems to be the year of the bully.

Thank you VJ. The promise of Spring is always right on time it seems.
I believe it is very easy to think that is going on over there and it does not concern us, but the way the world is now anything can happen.

Beautiful daffodils, Dwight! Lovely poem too. But the last two lines bring us back to reality. There isn’t anything pretty about war, although the Ukrainians have shown remarkable courage and patriotism. That is a beautiful thing! ❤

The Ukranians are really in a difficult situation. It looks like the Russians will soon overwhelm them! Very sad indeed.
