O fair flower, so quickly you’re fading…
Deep red transformed into gossamer wings.
While all around you remains vibrant green
another emerges to take your place
*
O frail beauty, intense brightness shines forth
reflected from petals bent and browning…
Shriveling // curling inward in death

I think sometimes the withered flower has even more beauty than the bright one.

I love this Dwight! My hibiscus is blooming as well, and it’s too bad their blooms are so fleeting. Love the photo too.

Thank you Linda! This photo was a fluke that was on the wrong exposure. But when I messed with it on my photo editor look what showed up. They are such wonderful flowers. I got one blooming that I dug up and put in the garage to keep from freezing!

It’s a wonderful photo! And not much chance of it freezing here. 🙂

Of all the flowers I hate to see curl up and die, Dwight, it’s the hibiscus that gets me the most, perhaps because it so gorgeous but so short-lived. As a metaphor for our own lives though, it’s not wasted in your beautiful words. I think you and I were thinking along the same lines for our quadrille.

Thank you Dora. Yes, I thought about that as I read your poem. Life and beauty are both short-lived!

Well done seasonal poem. Some see beauty in the decaying blooms. Even in death there can be beauty. The trees here are mostly barren but, there is still beauty in their naked limbs.
