Our lives birthed from fire and ash
Chilled molten quartz rock left exposed
Eroded by providential trials and tribulations
Washing away the ash // the insignificant
Leaving us acne pocked and worn
Our igneous core shining in the sun
revealing the gold embedded within us

Today is Quadrille Monday at d’Verse; and De Jackson asked us to write a Quadrille (exactly 44 words) using the word stone! I took these photos on Saturday when we were at our local park, not knowing when I would use them. This seemed to be the perfect time.

That stone looks as big as a car, so freegin awesome. When I see them I want to roll them home. I like the way you used the boulder as a metaphor for our own lives.

Thank you Lisa. It is about the size of a Ford Fiesta! It is beautiful to me as well.

You are welcome. You have to wonder why, of all of the places on the planet, it came to rest there.

I am not sure if it was found there when they excavated to make the park or if it was hauled in from another location. Gold was found in the quartz veins nearby many years ago.

That’s what I was gonna ask – how big is it? It’s quite a specimen, Dwight!

I love how you showed us the way to the gold in the heart of the stone. Like many humans.

Seemed like such a good way to show how the gold comes out with age as we discard the junk in our life! thank you Bjorn for your thoughtful comment!

I imagined the stone small and oblivious- like many of us – unnoticed until someone finds the beauty within. Quite thoughtful, Dwight. Thank you!

Big as a Ford Fiesta, damn; makes Plymouth Rock seem like a pebble. Veins of gold have driven men mad, yet we search on, while as you suggest, real wealth is an inside job.

Not sure why, but I really liked the line “leaving us acne pocked and worn.” Perhaps because it speaks to the aftermath of tragedy without fault.

Perhaps it is is a throwback thought to those teen years and those who suffered from the affects of acne. Thank you so much for your comment!
