Sweet little sisters
Linger over each shell found;
Assessing whether
the newest one
just might be a little better
than the one before;
Washing the sand away
putting each precious find
into their bucket of memories
to carry home
with them at days end.
Today at d’Verse, Linda asked us to linger on the word linger, and write a Quadrille (exactly 44 words) using it in some form! My poem is about two sweet little girls we saw who were next to us at the beach last week. They were having so much fun collecting shells in the surf, they did not know anyone else existed.

What a precious capture of childhood. I must confess, even now if I see an interesting rock/shell, I pick it up.

what a lovely lingering poem and treasures that will last long after the special day you had. My shells are a comfort and each one has a special story to told…. my pile just gets bigger and bigger..

💙 Such a sweet poem, Dwight, and who hasn’t done that at one time during childhood if you lived by the ocean or gulf coast. I still have the shells my daughters collected in a small glass keepsake box.

Aww this is sooo cute and wholesome! 😍 Sometimes, we preserve these shells and use it for a certain festival in which traditional dolls are arranged in the house and guests invited (it’s the longest festival Holiday we get, called Dussehra, lasting 10 nights). Such a bad way to describe it 😅 This post just lifted my spirits. Such a catchy title too! 😍 Delightful!

I didn’t do justice to the explanation of the festival, sorry 😅 These shells in general are beautiful memories to have at home even after the day ends 😍The girls in thr pic are precious!

In these Covid times it is refreshing to know that some things are still happening – children delighting themselves with nature’s bounty. Beautifully captured Dwight, in your quadrille.

These are childhood memories to treasure! I have memories of looking for shells with my kids: one in particular of being there with my auntie, who now has ALS and can’t make it to the beach anymore. I hope these memories help to cheer her.

Beautiful poem! Superb title! 🙂
The perfect place to linger…the perfect person to linger with…nothing better than siblings at the beach making memories! 🙂 “Our memories of the ocean will linger on long after our footprints in the sand are gone.” 🙂

Lovely, Dwight. It makes me think of my children on the beach when they were small and involved in their own little world.

Your poem is so lovely, Dwight, and the girls so sweet.
I can feel how happy they are on the beach, taking their time to find their
Special treasures. I still pick some favourite from beaches I visit.
From various countries my shells and little stones come.
What peace in lingering.
