Love is the skin of the soul…
Anger is the shadow that follows you
And, in the dark of night it becomes you
Love is face to face welcomed reality
Anger is that dark distorted part
Hauntingly eerie and frightening
Love lights the way leaving no shadow
No need to look back and wonder…
What part is trailing along behind
Love is the skin of the soul
bringing life and light to everyone
Healing the heart
Wrapping us in the divinity
With which we were created

love indeed is the light. Anger diminishes that light each day it’s allowed in, till there is no more light.
Very nicely written, the bold lines written can stand alone as a poem. 💙

Thank you Lisa. I read that in a poem line and I cannot remember where. It resonated with me as well. Then today I came up with the anger as a shadow. I originally was going to keep them separate then I thought why not contrast them and … voila!!

Interesting metaphors and concept, Dwight. Thought-provoking poem. I think that “anger as a shadow that follows you” is inspired. I make it a policy not to hold grudges. I have found that recent politics made it a little challenging not to become angry. Most of the time, I am succeeding! 🙂 I am still thinking about “love being a skin.”
Take care! ❤

Thank you so much Cheryl! I am glad this one made you stop and think. I heard a sermon this morning that was on anger. It gave me this line. I wrote it down right then and there so I would not forget it.

A good poem with a good picture. How did you get away with that lamp beside the rose? But you did.

That is why I chose the photo. The first thing you see is the rose, then you become aware of all the peripheral things in the background.

Excellent analogies (or are they similies or metaphors?) I always get those mixed up.

In any case is seems to work! :>) Thanks Jan!

I discovered these are metaphors … because a simile compares unlike objects using “like” or “as” … and these do not do that. They just ARE. I love it! And yes, it works!! ❤

I can’t agree more with you on these two lines because you poetically awoke in a touching metaphorical style the dignity and veracity of the virtue of love.
