All creatures great and small need connections

Birds seek each other’s company

finding joy and strength together

People too need connections to thrive

This past year has been a challenge

struggling to find new ways to connect

that won’t make us sick or kill us

Today at d’Verse, Merril asked us to think about this pass year and write a poem about connections. All through this Covid-19 time the birds have stayed connected, while we all have stayed apart. We really miss our connections.

  1. The picture is sweet! 🙂 Humans are a social species, so yes, we want, we need connections. Since physical connections are somewhat taboo these months, we must use the toolbox of distancy. Luckely we do have those tools, now more then ever. There is some irony in the fact that anti-social behaviour, namely being burried into a cell phone, in present days actually is a social life line. I long for a touch, a handshake, a hug, rubbing shoulders, a venue full of happy people enjoying a concert or a play. Till then, we connect from a distance but just as loving.

    • Thank you Peter for your great comment! My little birds all gather on the rail and in the plate of water! They make my day! I agree we have quite the paradox with screen time increasing greatly. What is happening to our children’s minds as they attempt to maneuver through virtual learning. We have been hugging our children and grandchildren while wearing masks. We feel it is essential to our mental wellbeing! We have not had a problem so far.

  16. It is an amazement how technology has been used to help us feel connected, yet nothing can replace the human touch…the handshake, the shoulder pat, the hug, the joining of hands. How we will welcome the return of the human touch!

  19. Thank goodness for technology. You are right about the birds–and that photo is adorable.
    I love to watch the geese at the river–sometimes I think I tease out a bit of what is going on–couples, family groups, enemies. . .Most of the birds I see are usually in groups or pairs, but not herons.

  25. We all need to connect in some way with one another. I am happy my son can finally go back to hybrid learning next week here in Missouri where he can at least see other kids two days a week. I worry for these kids social skills if they only interact through gaming. A true problem for society if this continues on much longer.
