Lillian’s Happiness Project prompt, today at d’Verse, reminded me of the song we sang as kids: “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands…” “…stomp your feet” “…say AMEN!” It is amazing how may people get stressed out from things they have no control over. Tomorrow is election day in the US. If you watched all the ads on TV it is no wonder you are depressed and stressed. We can only control how we respond to life. What will you do to make tomorrow better, no matter who wins?
Don’t let tomorrow’s election steal your happiness
There is much more to life than a political agenda
Live life as you always have bringing joy to everyone
Help a neighbor… Call a friend… Smile
Let you happiness reflect the joy and love within you

Well, Dwight…you had me at the title! We sang this with all its accompanying actions at so many birthday parties for my two children when they were young — this and the hokey-pokey. Do you know that one? A friend of mine put a sign up outside his house, “”What if the hokey pokey is really all it’s about?” 🙂
I do agree…..so important to know what we can control and what we cannot.
We are having tomato soup and grilled cheese tomorrow for supper as we watch the election unfold….you know….a little comfort food to calm the nerves. :

Ha Ha… comfort food always helps… Yes, and the Hokey Pokey!! How fun. I love the sign idea. Good philosophical thought!! Thank you for your great prompt and your interesting comment!

You’re right I remember back in the day, not too long ago, if the election didn’t go your way, you complained and excepted whatever; now we have to wonder …should we get ready for a civil war?

I think there will be many that need to overcome and stay happy after tomorrow, no matter how it goes.

We will have to find a way to go on no matter what. Yes, life goes on, and we have to find a way to be happy, but. . .I don’t know. We’ll see.
We never sang “amen” with the song. 😀.

I had to look it up–I didn’t remember. 😀 I saw two versions–smile or shout hurray. I think I sang both.

I think you and I must be blood kin! There seem to be some folks who can enter a white room, look around and say “I see a dark shadow in that far corner” and perseverate on the dark shadow for hours. I read a book years ago titled something like “Image Your Way to Success” and the concept was sort of what you see is what you get. I’ve always ascribed to that mentality…..so Amen!

Good advice! We used to sing that song in Sunday School as children. They also sang it in the Islamic school where I used to teach! ❤ All the best, Dwight!

Excellent advice, but the darker side of optimism tells me that we can adapt to living in Hell or prison, but we should avoid both through the choices we take.

Such a wonderful and concise message, Dwight! We shouldn’t let dark external circumstances steal our inner light, and our love which we have always had, and always will have, to give ourselves and others.

Yes, it is so important to not let the darkness overwhelm us. We need to light our small candle and shine!

I’ve been singing ‘If you’re happy and you know it wash your hands’ throughout the pandemic, to make sure I wash them for the full two minutes! It started because my two-year-old grandson got confused when my daughter sang ‘Happy birthday to you’ while washing hands with him. I have my fingers crossed for the election – today already!
