“You know,” he mused, “Some folks don’t believe there is a God. They get all tangled up with religion and theological arguments about who is right and who is wrong, and miss the bigger picture.”
Grandpa always did have a unique perspective on life. He was wise beyond his years, but only shared his wisdom if asked.
“Aren’t your afraid of catching Covid and dying,” I asked?
“You know son, there are a lot worse things in living than in dying. Death is knocking on all of our doors!”
“I believe there is a God who is the source of all life, and that my life will continue on long after this old pain-ridden body is gone.”
I thought about what he said, as he continued, ‘We look at him through the wrong end of the long telescope of Time’.
“God’s Love is eternal!”

Painting By Dwight L. Roth
Today at d’Verse, Kim is having us do Prosery. This is when we write a prose piece of flash fiction (144 words) that includes a random line form a poem she chooses for us. She gave us this line from the D. H. Lawerence poem, Hummingbird: ‘We look at him through the wrong end of the long telescope of Time’. I decided to write my piece as a conversation.

That’s a very wise grandpa and a beautiful Prosery ❤

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.”

I love that painting…it really encompasses the connection you’ve painted with your words. My grandfather was a man of few words, but his life was an example to us all. (K)

Thank you so much! Words without the example don’t mean a whole lot.

I agree with your Grandpa here! It’s true God is eternal. It is so hard for us to wrap our minds around that one. And I believe God is always in control. We have to be molded!

We tend to look from our perspective. We need to view life from God’s perspective.

True! My story takes a veer into Lucifer’s perspective, haha! I’m not Satanic though I promise.

Beautiful and so sweet. What a wise grandpa!
Perfect story to pair with your wonderful painting! Love your painting, Dwight!
One of my fav things as a little girl was sitting on the porch, or in a porch swing, and listening to the grown-up relatives talk and laugh. The atmosphere was so comfortable and so peaceful.

Often times it is not easy to read what the elderly have in mind. They have seen too many to make us cringe sometimes. Great write Dwight, as it sets one thinking! You are also very talented!

Thank you Hank. I believe we should take more time to listen to our elders, while we still have them with us. This year has really brought that into reality!

This was touching and beautiful Dwight. A loving conversation. I believe completely in the essence of what you say here, I do see it in a different form though. Life’s energyCertainly continues well beyond the death of the physical body. This is a well written piece Dwight enjoyed it.
