Every summer Butterflies arrive to enjoy my blooming flowers. Like travelers on the interstate, they stop and refresh themselves with nutrients to sustain them on their way. Leaving their eggs and chrysalises behind they carry on year after year. They are a joy to behold, as they flit from flower to flower probing for nectar in each tiny yellow stamen. All the while they pollinate my Zinnias for next years planting.

Dwight, these photos really brighten my day. The ones with two butterflies with the flowers are magnificent! Butterfly buffet indeed. I need to plant some zinnias next year they are lovely.

They are wonderful and very hardy flowers. The butterflies and bees love them.

Whereabouts were these photos taken? The only butterflies I see in my garden are the plain white ones and these ones are beautiful 🦋🌺

This is near Charlotte, NC. Our area is outside the city in a farming area.

Yes, for sure! We have a large wooded lot adjoining our development that helps us see birds and butterflies come for the flowers.

Yes, Even in this time of Covid, nature does not change. It has been a way to get out and about at home. They are beautiful!

Your haiku is so beautiful and right-on…butterflies are a buffet for our eyes! They always make us smile! 🙂 Lovely buffet of butterfly photos, Dwight! 🙂
I always think about the darkness and struggle butterflies go through before they can fly. We must remember that without that dreaded thing called change, there would be no butterflies for us to enjoy.
HUGS!!! 🙂
PS…Did you know that a group of butterflies is often referred to as a kaleidoscope or a flutter? I prefer those terms over the term swarm. Ha. 🙂

Very interesting comment. Kaleidoscope is a great description . They are a joy to watch… so fragile … so beautiful… so amazing. Thank you for you most interesting response.

Love your Haiku that accentuates your beautiful photographs. I love butterflies and the hope for the future they represent to me. 👍🏽❤️

Thanks you so much Jan. I love seeing them each year. I have only seen a few monarchs the past few years, but the swallowtails keep coming each year. So fragile, they are amazing creatures.

When you have worked hard towards a beautiful garden, butterflies are the reward. And such beautiful photos are a bonus, really well captured photos! I think there are three different types of butterfly there.

Thank you Deb. Yes, It is wonderful to see them come each year. Their marvelous colors are so awesome to see. I believe there are three different ones in the photo.

You do a much better job of catching them than I do. Mine are always off in a flash.

I try to move very slowly when I am close to them!

As do I, but they only stay seconds at each flower.

Sometimes they take off circle and come back! I try to wait them out!

Me, too, but they always come back to a different bloom. Perhaps that is my problem. Too many blooms. Or too little patience. At any rate, I can come look at your photos..

Thank you Derrick. The monarchs are less and less. I have only seen one or two this year. The swallowtails come every year!

I wish I had a place to plant some, but I live in an apartment 🙂 Someday, I’d love to have a yard so I can make a big flower and vegetable garden!

Maybe you could have a couple of five-gallon to grow things on your deck??

No deck either 😦 😦 Or balcony. However, I have thought of getting a window box for our big living room window! 🙂

My husband and I have made a habit of visiting other neighborhoods for nice walks around LA, and we get to see some spectacular gardens that way 🙂 No battlefields nearby me, although you know I always love visiting those too! 🙂
