A follow up of the five-line Japanese poetry given to us yesterday on d’Verse Poets Pub. The form I am trying to do here is Kyoka! Today I lost the top half of my maple tree, so I could laugh or cry … or write a poem about it!! Inspiration can be found in all of life!
Kyoka is to the senryu what tanka is to the haiku. That is, Kyoka is a five-line form of parody poetry. While tanka savors the nature/human nature intersection with heart and pathos, kyoka explores just human nature, usually in as satirical a way as possible. Or, at the very least, in a self-deprecating way.

Is say the same thing about inspiration. Except I say everywhere is a picture.

Thanks, the flooding was mostly on the northshore. We had some glorious thunder and lightning. At 3am I wasn’t our and about.

It pains me to see a tree damaged like that. I don’t think I’ve heard of Kyoka. So many new poetic forms to learn!

Oh dear. It looks like there was a hollow in the center of the limb that may have weakened it. It looks like it’s been around a long time. May it heal from the injury and continue on.

It is only ten years old. I believe it had some injury earlier but did not break. Hopefully I can save the other half. It is pretty thing around the break. Thanks for your concern!

Dwight that tree is only 10 years old??? Things must grow a lot faster where you’re at. It would take 50 years (or more) for a maple to get that big here. What will you do with the broken limb?

We have a nice long growing season. Maples grow pretty fast! I will saw it up and put it back in the woods.

It looks bigger than it really is… probably five or six inch diameter at the biggest end of the broken limb.

I’ve never heard of Kyoka before, the poem reflects the situation well. We’ve some wind here on the Scottish coast, blown over the Atlantic.
