Tears of the Moon stream down evaporating in the abyss;
Memories of a blue planet rising and setting echo silently
off the Sea of Tranquility, they are quickly swallowed up
in fiery canyons and portals of a whole new world.
People have been gone for eons,
obliterated when the earth threw a world-wide tantrum
blowing its stacks // spitting fire and ice over everything
ridding itself of the leeches, ticks, and bedbugs known as humans.
Now its a new dimension of colored portals exuding light.
Silence speaks volumes on this Third Rock from the Sun.
The moon still shines, but the echo of voices is lost forever
Tears of the Moon painting: Dwight L. Roth
Today at d’Verse, Merril asked us to write a poem that includes some form of the world Echo. I decided to turn my painting into a sci-fi piece.

Marvelous. Cry not for us, though — we lived a short, glorious life in the shadow of the galaxy. Cry for our children’s children’s children. We know not what they will inherit.

One day at a time is all any of us get! Make it a great one. Thank you Claudia!

I try really hard to concentrate on that one day at a time concept. I’m not a Christian anymore, but I do still like Jesus’ quote about each day having enough trouble of its own. Very true.

Beautiful art piece! Love the vivid colors used. Very abstract and well detailed gathering the conception of the story behind it. She grieves because of sin. But thank God for Jesus that paid the price setting us free from it and restoring all that was lost due to the fall! Rejoice moon, for salvation has come! β€

Thank you Tara! It is one of my favorite paintings that I have done. The poem sort of evolved as a result of the prompt on d’Verse.

These are beautiful, evocative lines.
Dwight, do you have a challenge running with your paintings as prompts? If not, I suggest you start one.

That is an interesting idea! I might have to think about doing that in the future!

Wonderful, if chilling, poem to go with your beautiful painting, Dwight. Your own ekphrastic challenge! I imagine the moon will go on–long after we’re gone. Thank you for echoing with me!

Thank you Merril. I imagine it will go on and on. Who knows what the future holds! Echos of the past lost in space!

When all else fails to inspire, I always go to my photos and sometimes to my paintings for inspiration. They never let me down. I had not thought of it as an Ekphrastic Painting, but you are right it was the painting that gave the inspiration… along with your interesting prompt!

Very bright painting. I like how you streamed those tears coming from the moon.

As you can see, I love deep intense colors. The name came after I had finished the painting!

Indeed, but you’ve experimented with many “out of the box” applications that pushed the envelop beyond your imagination! π

Beautiful works of art, both the painting and the words you painted of what could be a chilling future. I can see this as being the beginning of a sort of science fiction novel. π

This is heart rending. Humans are indeed ticks and bugs who killed and are still kicking our planet. Sigh.

Sadly greed seems to be in our nature. It takes effort on our part to overcome that. Thank you for your comment!
