Forgiveness is the door through
the wall of separation
allowing us to exit
our bitter cage of choice.
Grace is the understanding
that frees us from ourselves,
opening the door of restoration
replacing bitterness with love.
Offering forgiveness to others
comes with no guaranties.
Forgiveness is the door we walk through
…to free ourselves

Thanks Frank! I believe it is a choice we make to carry or let go of our bitterness.

Those last 2 lines do it for me. The hardest one to forgive is usually one’s self. Grace is the lubricator that saves us all…

Thank you Rosaline. Took me a few years to realize it wasn’t about others but hinged on me!

It took me a while, too, Dwight, to realize that holding onto anger and hate only harmed myself.

Thank you so much! I guess it comes from years of thinking my bitterness was the other person’s fault. Sometimes it takes awhile to accept that it may be me!

Why is it that the truest things about the human heart are simplest yet most difficult? We’re so wrongly entranced with mirrors that they upend our good natures and twist the Golden Rule into Mobius strip of envy and greed. … in AA they preach self-sacrifice for others are the way to overcome self-damage, and the truth of forgiveness is exactly as you say: a heavy door we must open before we can walk in sunlight. Amen and well done.

Thank you Brendan! I think we think things should be more complicated, when really that are rather simple. Thank you for your thoughtful comment!

Forgiveness is a topic I never tire of. I really like your first two lines,
“Forgiveness is the door through
the wall of separation”
A lack of forgiveness keeps us separated.

I often thinks that we have a harder time accepting forgiveness than giving it away… maybe we need to learn how to do both

Yes, perhaps we don’t want to let go of our feelings of hurt!
