Forgiveness & Freedom

School doors at the end of the day! 001

Forgiveness is the door through
the wall of separation
allowing us to exit
our bitter cage of choice.
Grace is the understanding
that frees us from ourselves,
opening the door of restoration
replacing bitterness with love.
Offering forgiveness to others
comes with no guaranties.
Forgiveness is the door we walk through
…to free ourselves

Today is open link night at d’Verse. The inspiration for this poem came as a spin-off from a post I read earlier this week. You can read it here:

  2. Why is it that the truest things about the human heart are simplest yet most difficult? We’re so wrongly entranced with mirrors that they upend our good natures and twist the Golden Rule into Mobius strip of envy and greed. … in AA they preach self-sacrifice for others are the way to overcome self-damage, and the truth of forgiveness is exactly as you say: a heavy door we must open before we can walk in sunlight. Amen and well done.
