Fall Colors

IMG_E9031.JPG

The dry weather will affect the Fall colors around here this year. We have not had rain for over a month. Instead of turning yellow, the hickory trees behind our house are simply turning brown and dropping to the ground. The painting above will help us remember how colorful the Fall foliage can be.

Swimming colors blend

Red leaves drift down from the trees

Snow lays on the peaks

Frank Tassone’s Haikai challenge is to write a poem using Fall Colors as our prompt. I thought I would repost my painting showing the beauty of Fall colors.

  1. Not far from where I live, the Swan Lake Fire which burned all summer is finally under control…. mostly. Over 167,000 acres burned. How strange to drive through what was once gorgeous birch forests to what is now miles of black and brown sticks and no undergrowth. To look on the mountains that once showed all the autumn colors now are grey and black. I’m guessing next year will be very green… of a different kind. Such are the natural cycles. I’m just glad we have got some rain this autumn, unlike you, it sounds. I think your situation sounds sadder… because drought is so bad. It’s harder to come back from. Fire, as you know, refines and renews. Ahhhh just my autumn thoughts tonight.

      • Indeed, yes. Mt St Helens. Mt. Augustine. Mt. Redoubt…. I’ve seen a few volcanoes blow their tops over the years lol But you’re right, it always makes a beautiful, if different, landscape the following year.

  2. May you get your needed rain. At least we haven’t had a record braking year for rain this year.
Mostly yellows now. My neighbors flaming bushes are just getting ‘carrot’ color on their tops now.
