Castles along the Rhine

It was an incredible site to travel up the Rhine and see all the old castles on the hillsides along the way. The Middle Rhine region is famous for wine growing and castles. Some of the castles are still in ruin, but many of them have been taken care of and in some cases people live in them. Imagine staying in a hotel that was once a medieval castle. An interesting thing to me was that the rows of vines in the vineyard were planted vertical rows rather than horizontal. Some of our tour group climbed the Castle at Koblenz, but the rest of the castles were seen  as we passed by, moving up river.

This is the castle at Koblenz. The more able bodied persons made the climb while the rest of us went to the Fortress on a bus.
