Today at d’verse Amaya asked us to think about music that touches our soul and brings tears to our eyes! I have been a lover of country music since I was a teenager. Traditional Country Music has always been embedded in the lives of the listeners. Listening to it is often like watching a reality show. Vince Gill gained fame in the early 1990s, and his song Go Rest High on that Mountain touches my soul like no other. He finished it after the death of his brother a couple of years earlier.
The clip above is from the funeral of George Jones, where he sings his classic song with Patty Loveless. George Jones, a veteran of Classic Country Music, was a close friend of Vince. As you listen, you can’t help but get caught up in the intense emotion flowing from this song. It is truly one of the great songs of our time.
Music searches the soul like nothing else;
Setting words on fire // lighting the spirit;
Inspiring our hearts // connecting us with God.
Tears flow as I listen to Go Rest High on the Montain;
Crying for my loss // Crying for their loss
Coming face to face with my mortality
Knowing at some time the center of focus will be me.
Empathy, pain, and grief all rolled into one;
Cathartic tears cleanse my soul // resets my spirit;
A time of reflection past … present … and future

Man I’m a sucker for harmony. A lost art from today’s new music, it seems. Or maybe I just don’t know where to find it anymore. This line stood out from your poem,
“Knowing at some time the center of focus will be me.”
Because I’ve never considered death that way. Onward and upward, my friend!

When you get to my age you will think about your mortality more than you do now. I love harmony. Seems music like food has lost its authenticity in the processing. Thanks Amaya! Great prompt!

Beautiful thought and music Roth.
When I was in college I used to listen to old songs on radio – 60s; a decade when great music was composed all over the world. I was very fond of one devotional song in Hindi from a movie. Whenever that song was aired I used to freeze and had goose pimples. It was a song for longing to see the divine ❤️❤️

I have a question- how do you manage posting everyday? Do you write a poem everyday or sometimes do you write 3 or 4 at one and upload one each day?

Most of the time I write each day. The d’verse group that I write with gives a prompt three time a week. I also do a haiku for Frank Tasonne’s Haikai prompt on Saturdays. I take a lot of photos. Photos are my muse! Some times I just start writing and it all comes together! Thank you for asking! Plus I have 72 years of experience to draw on!! :>)

That’s pretty incredible. I find great difficulty in writing a poem twice a week for my website.

The key is to write only what you feel passionate about or have experienced. I am not a fan of simply writing for poetic form. So often they come through lacking authenticity or sounding like some poet from the past. Write your life and you will be a success! Photos help a lot!

Dwight, your poetry is amazing, and the lines- “Coming face to face with my mortality
Knowing at some time the center of focus will be me.” These really hit home, for I find myself thinking more about my own mortality, and how precious time is to me now. Thank you for introducing me to this song. I had never heard it before.

What a fitting description of who we are as humans:
“Knowing at some time the center of focus will be me.
Empathy, pain, and grief all rolled into one;”
Very nice poem Dwight.
