While the North thaws out from the minus fifty+ wind chills of a week ago, The South East enjoyed the warm air flowing up from the Gulf Of Mexico. My daffodils had heads on them for the past two weeks. The burst of warm air caused many of them to bloom. It is a wonderful taste of spring in the middle of winter! Today the cold weather is back and the daffodils will feel the chill!

This Haibun is for Frank Tassone’s Haikai challenge to write a poem about “first spring gust”. We were gone the beginning of the week and when we came home on Wednesday, we were greeted by smiling daffodils blooming. Spring is just around the corner!
Thanks for sharing. Your daffodils look magnificent!

I love the daffodils. None around here and our brief touch of spring is being followed by more snow and cold weather.

Thank you! It is getting cold here again as well. Down in the thirties tonight! They will probably survive in spite of the cold.

We’re supposed to have 2 days of snow and I have dr’s appointments this week and don’t like driving in this stuff and even worse off if it is a lot. It should be starting soon.

How wonderful is this! I’m sitting here in -35 C freezing so this warmed my heart!

Lovely daffodils, Dwight and the poems too. I haven’t planted daffodils before, it’s not too late to do it this year. We still have the last cold but the birds have returned.

Thanks Miriam. I think you can still get them in the ground. They are gorgeous when in full bloom. It takes a couple of years to multiply and fill out.

Yes, I’m going to do it for sure, Dwight. My other bulbs take time to multiply also.

The weather these days is apparently really strange, the winter hasn’t gone completely and the spring is right around the corner, the mornings and evenings in place are shivering while during the afternoon it’s quite warm.
The spring flowers haven’t bloomed here yet.
But your picture is really beautiful.

Thank you! My iPhone really brings out the color and detail on the close ups. This up and down weather is typical for North Carolina!

You update your blog very regularly, and that is what keeps me curious about your next update.
Most of the times I’m not able to read your work as and when you upload, but whenever I have time, I do read all the updates I have missed.

Awe… lucky you. I broke down and bought a bouquet of flowers to brighten my table.
Lovely Daffs. Looking forward to mine – might be another month though.

Daffodils are such cheerful flowers. Your haibun really captures the feeling they bring – even when a late cold snap reminds us winter isn’t over yet.

Yes they are definitely a harbinger of spring!! It is back to cold here but they seem to be surviving!

Amazing from this vantage point… far too cold for daffodils here … an early tease for you 🙂

I love daffodils, Dwight. No sign of ours yet, but thank you for the reminder of what will come. (We had some snow yesterday, and a wintry mix coming today!)

I wonder, are they still out, or were they taken by the chill? So cheerful. Love the haibun.
