Grumpy old ground hog
Winter sleep interrupted
Still cold // spring will come
No dark shadow to scare him
Who would believe such a tale?
****************
Frank Tassone asked us to write a Haikai poem for this ground hog’s day. Even though he did not see his shadow, it is still very cold in many parts of the country. So our prompt is “still cold”!

He didn’t see his shadow because it’s still dark outside. haha. I don’t believe the groundhog, my area is expecting snow the next few days. (eye roll)

A the tales of the Whistlepig. The long and short of it 🙂
https://www.history.com/news/groundhog-day-history-and-facts
“Groundhogs are also variously referred to as woodchucks, whistle-pigs, or land-beavers. The name whistle-pig comes from the fact that, when alarmed, a groundhog will emit a high-pitched whistle as a warning to the rest of his or her colony. The name woodchuck has nothing to do with wood. Or chucking.”

Very interesting! I believe prairie dogs do the same whistle to warn the others.
