hollow winds
my thoughts turn
to firewood

Rachael Sutcliffe, another well know haiku poet in the UK, has passed away. Frank Tassone asked us to choose one of her poems and write a follow-up poem in the same manner as her poem, as a tribute to her wonderful poetry. I really liked this one because of the many interpretations one could get from reading it.
Relentless wind blows
inspiration burns within
like logs on the fire

A well done haiku, Dwight. I checked out your Amazon page, you have quite a few books, many were published in 2015. Will you publish another poetry book?

I have a couple more poetry books and a fictional biography of my grandfather, that I self-published, but I have not put them on Amazon. I have seen little return from my kindle books.

Yes, I know. Marketing is not an easy job for self publishing.

I don’t do much marketing so I don’t get a lot of traffic!

I go to poetry and publishing classes for the retirees held at Cal State U, Fullerton. They publish poetry or life story books but don’t do marketing. Some books are written and passed on to families.

Thank you Miraim. I am still learning about haiku and how to write authentic ones.

I used to participate in haiku challenge. Some people write no other poetry forms but haiku, so it’s easy to those people.

I really like the way you can say so much with so few words!

Yes, I think that’s true in many forms of poetry!

I gather you are back home again from your latest trip??

Yes, we came home last night. I still have problem adjusting the time change, woke up at 2:30 am and couldn’t go back to sleep. Hope to have a better night tonight.

A lovely tribute, Dwight. Inspiration can indeed burn relentlessly, like logs on a fire. (And that is such a warm, comforting image.)
